I had a chronic infatuation with bad boys when I was in my late teens and early 20s. There were two I had long (and messy) relationships with, and I thank them sincerely for curing that fetish.

One was a 28 year old bouncer who would let me in despite me being under-age (I was 19, you had to be 21 to get in). He had a motorbike, a bad attitude, foul mouth, was very well known in my town, and he was notorious for playing women. The cliche "I can change him" was like my lame motto. Spoiler: I could not.

He is still a womaniser and a cheat, no clue how many kids he has but it seems like I hear about a new one every time I go back, and through his last 20 years of relationships he still randomly hits on me when our paths cross (which isn't often). He has been to prison at least 3 times that I know of.

The other was 30 when I had just turned 18 and he was much worse. Really, really hot, charismatic, and spoiled me with stuff, but also short tempered, violent, and a drug dealer. And quite high up in the ranks of a gang, which I didn't know going in.

I thought I was cool in my dumb teenaged mind because I was with him, and all my friends (plus grown butt women around town) were into him. He would call me "bubby" and "little one" and "sweet girl" and I thought it was romantic. He didn't like it when I dressed up or wore makeup, which I thought meant he liked me "just as I am". He once beat a guy up so bad his teeth came out, and only stopped because his friend tried to comfort me by giving me a hug. So this guy started in on him instead. I eventually broke up with him because he hurt my cat, if that gives you some idea of the level of psychopath I was seeing.

Anyway, he's in prison now. He has been for a long time and will be for a lot longer. When I heard what he did I looked back at so many NSFW things he was into and can't believe how many red flags I missed.
