5 is fricking based, the patrician choice by far. Some FF fans don't like it because it's actually a good game with interesting mechanics and character customization instead of a shitty anime. The story is complete fever dream nonsense with a
pirate and a saturday morning cartoon villain that's secretly a dimension merging tree. Play the SNES fan translation (seriously, it's actually very good) or the GBA version the GBA version has a little extra content but the SNES version is super comfy and has sick bass lines in the soundtrack.

9 is probably my favorite. The graphics/cutscenes took a step forward. Vivi is a gangster.
10 is the first “modern” feeling FF. Blitzball was cool. 10 has the best soundtrack. It really adds to the world building.

I played 13 for the first time ever on a PC port a couple years ago. It has a special place in my heart because my bf at the time had a ps3 and I didn't, and we broke up right before I got to finish the final boss. I was more mad about that than the breakup. lol
