Having just played through deathloop and PvPing through the latest update, Deathloop is kindof amazing. It just has the longest, most drawn out, mind numbingly hand holdy unskippable tutorial ever. Its really stupid, like I know the concept for the game is difficult to grasp, but they really should have let people figure it out on their own. I put the game down for a month after finishing the tutorial, then fell in love when I picked it back up again. That being said Deathloop only has similarities to a rougelite, it has just as much in common with Dark Souls. And it works really fricking well. The idea of making your decisions repeatable and changeable is a huge boon for Arkane Immersive sims, and it lets you do all the things without having to start a campaign over again.

The levels are so small and simple, the ai is so bad, and the load outs are so limited it lacks any of the actual diversity and strategy of the past Arkanes games. Most fun I had was finding a Boone that gives you health regen in toxic gas and getting which shoots toxic gas clouds.

Roguelite games can be very good or it can be a cope for lazy level design, it al depends on the developer's vision. Just because there are a million shitty platformers out there doesn't mean it's a bad genre.
