I'll never understand how the author is simultaneously dead if the politics aren't explicitly pro-left and the dictator of his own work if they are.
Not that anyone actually read Death of the Author and invokes it properly whenever it comes up, to be fair. Any interpretation of a work needs to be a total interpretation, and it must not be self-contradicting within the work itself (a common thing you see with DOTA fan theories). If your interpretation of a book or whatever is contradicted by the book, and only works if you cherrypick passages and ignore other ones that refute your interpretation, you're interpretation is objectively - not subjectively - incorrect.
And of course if the author did explicitly comment on an element of the work, DOTA also does not apply to that specific case. The entire concept of the author being dead is somewhat obsolete with how terminally online most contemporary writers are at any rate.
