GTA6 is def not going to flop. Even if it's more woke than 5, if the gameplay is similar it will do just fine. I think the real risk for GTA6 is that it doesn't actually innovate at all on the game and gives players something that feels like gta 5 with updated graphics. If that happens It will still sell well but it won't exceed the success of 5.
But people who think that naughty dog game with the ugly bald chick is going to be an auto success are r-slurs. It's a new IP without an established fanbase and Naughty Dog has slowly been taking hits over the years to its prestige gathering new haters all along the way.
It's not enough to come from a big name
studio anymore. Studio names don't really mean shit anymore especially as more and more people realize that the original employees who brought you your favorite games have long moved on to other projects.
That doesn't mean the ugly bald chick game is guaranteed to fail, no one really knows enough about the game outside of the main character being ugly as frick in the trailer to know either way. But it's def not guaranteed.

It didn't become one of the best selling games ever because of its story mode lol. Most people won't even finish 6's story

Rockstar games were GREAT when they were SINGLEPLAYER for 12 years and the company went to shit when it became about milking microtransactions
Only exception was SA:MP and that was nonofficial

It's actually stupid easy to make money now and not that grindy either. I saw a 20$ shark card for a million GTA dollars the other day and now you can make that in twenty minutes just playing the game 
I wonder if GTA V being older in its lifecycle has convinced Rockstar to be more generous and focus on player retention and growth.
Though by that logic GTA 6 will go back to being scummy because they won't have to worry about a player base there

Actually, I couldn't get past the opening cinematic. I opened online in the first week it was released, got put into some public server or something, heard a lisping 12 year old talking over the audio while I was trying to watch my guy land in Los Santos, and then got kicked out of the server. Never opened online again.

It will for the same reason that nearly every CoD exceeds the success of previous entries, the main audience is normal people who don't play enough videogames to care about the culture war or innovation.

You may be right! But I wouldn't put Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty in the same category.
CoD is an annual release and its playerbase has been trained to expect the same FPS game with a slightly different military aesthetic every year.
Grand Theft Auto releases are much less common and each iteration has been a dramatic improvement over the previous one. I think the expectations of the audience are much more different than that of CoD-Slop enjoyers. It will have been at least 12 years since GTA 5 by the time 6 comes out and the game will be the most expensive ever made. If it's just a reheated GTA 5 with higher resolution textures and a new map I think it will still perform well but not be the phenomena that 5 was.
But I could be wrong, I think it's entirely possible most GTA player at this point are just 13 year old boys getting their hands on the "forbidden" game their parents don't like. And there will always be new customers entering that demographic every year until the end of time.

I would confidently bet a paycheck that it will be a massive success. People will absolutely buy a game just because it was released by a prestigious studio. The mere announcement of Cyberpunk 2077 or w/e essentially revived the genre of Cyberpunk back to the mainstream solely based in the Witcher 3's success. The new Armored Core outsold its entire 25 year old series solely on the cachet Fromsoft has created with XCORE g*mers. Normies who played TLOU and loved being a dad to an ellen page lookalike will buy it solely on the fact that it's a rare Naughty Dog release.
