There are many ways to ask tiny indie devs to add localization to their game. These requests can be polite or rude, but leaving a negative review for missing localization is one of the worst approaches.

When I was at university in Bongland I was the designated 'talk to people' guy for my circle of Chinese friends. My roommates were all barely functioning as English users and sat around playing Goldeneye and Fzero-X all day (I am very old). They probably paid someone to pass their IELTS test so no... lot of the Chinese overseas do need translations.

Chinese love to tout their virtue, one of them being 入境隨俗, which basically means "when in Rome, do as the Romans do." Apparently the Mainlanders have forgotten about this wisdom when they are oversea.

Lit: "new land, new culture". It just means to tread lightly and don't attract attention to yourself. A direct translation of "when in Rome" would be 在罗马时入乡随俗

The origin of the idiom I used is "入境而問禁，入國而問俗，入門而問諱。"
It (roughly) translates to "ask what are prohibited when you enter a state; ask for local custom when you enter a city; ask for his father's name when you visit someone's house."
The whole thing was later shortened to the idiom "入境隨俗" to express the idea of people should adopt to the local custom when they move there.
It is basically talking about the same thing as the "when in Rome" saying, as I have stated above.
The one you used "入乡随俗" is just a different way of saying it, which I believe is how Mainlanders say it, and Taiwanese mostly use the one I used.

I've been watching it unfold on a Chinese sub, and they are furious at the developer.
It seems they are very adamant that the developer is intentionally picking on the Chinese for various reasons, such as:
There are only two complaints about the language, why make a big deal out of it when there are plenty of positive Chinese review?
The game supports 11 languages, many have fewer speakers than Chinese, why include them and not Chinese. So this is not a "can't" issue, but a "won't" issue.
It includes Japanese, but not Chinese? Why do White people like Japanese more than Chinese?
There are a few in those threads who voiced my take on this whole story, that they are not owed a language, and should either just petition for it, hack the game to translate it themselves, or just don't play it.
They then got even more upset, saying the developer should just make the game unavailable to the China region, and the people who speaks out in defense of the developer are race traitors.
Mainlanders will continue to wonder why the civilized world see them as savages.
