Yep. But have aged much worse than this. Three movies just off the top of my head:

  • Rent (2005): The only character who isn't a lazy, contemptible parasite is the antagonist of the film. I haven't seen the stage show tho.

  • V for Vendetta (2005): Guy Fawkes mask cringe aside, the movie is slathered in Bush-era doomsaying. And there are many things the UK is in danger of becoming, but a fascist dictatorship is not one of them.

  • Crocodile Dundee (1986): More people know what Australians are like now, and they're nothing like that. Also, I hate :!marseytrain:s as much as the next chud, but the way they treat the transvestite side character is unnecessarily cruel and mean-spirited.

I really liked the gay dude in V hiding Koran from the state so it doesn't get destroyed.

It makes you wonder if it's intentional contrast, or were the people behind the film oblivious how it can be seen as very ironic.
