This is such a stupid myth. People married off their children at about the same age as it is done now, around early 20s. There's a lot of sources confirming this throughout the ages, but a good argument for it comes in form of reasoning, because if you send two 12 year olds to live and provide on their own, they're going to fricking die.
The only case where people did intentionally get married off early and where this misconception likely comes from is in high society where it was done for political reasons. It was done to secure allies and reinforce relationships between states and nobles. Marriage was done to bond the two houses by blood- now that they're relatives, they should not harm each other. It was more of a gesture of trust than anything, it was definitely not normal to birth children at 12

Neighbor look at every single 3rd world counttry in the world people be selling their kids at 13 or 14 or 15 all over the place until they become more developed. You have been psyoped into believing that somehow whitelandistan was the only place which when it has 3rd world quality of life still only let adults be married off when the very idea of 18 as adults is barely 2 or 3 centuries old at best for almost all of the world.

Neighbor I am from the 3rd world I know what I am talking about. The age of 18 consent in a modern contemporary concept. You believe in killing people ( if you support killing libertarians ) for a morality that didn't even exist 100 years ago. We are creatures of our time I am just shocked so many of you do not realize how recent current social norms and standards of right and wrong are.

you are still not getting it. They aren't lynching you in rural places for raping the 14 year old. They are lynching you for not being her husband approved of by her family first. Or at least that is how it was in the past, because again, people did not have a concept of age of consent beyond it it bleeds it is biologically capable to breed, because again, modern day age of consent is a contemporary modern day invention.
I admit you did raise a good point though. Just because age of consent wasn't 18 does not necessitate that everybody was getting pregnant before 18.

Also it varied quite a bit over time. When the economy was doing well it was possible to get married a little earlier, just like in modern times. It wasn't because it was some kind of cultural norm to r*pe children.
