Did you see him praising AC: We Wuz Samurai for having amazing bamboo cutting physics alongside a clip where bamboo was "cut" in a perfectly straight horizontal line, with half of it immediately disappearing, from a diagonal slash that didn't line up at all?
I'm not sure what you're calling nerdy. I don't care about the bamboo at all. The point was just that it's not the least bit impressive for a game coming out in 2025 (wouldn't have been impressive even 5 years ago). So, why is a Kotaku journ*list praising it? Because they'll do anything they can to push sales for games on "their side".

Nope, can't say I'm surprised at all. Dude's basically posting ads in exchange for access.

My bad, it was Stephen Totilo, but close enough. Also, it is a horizonal slash but it still doesn't line up with the cut.
Bottom half immediately disappears:
Bamboo is cut farther along than where the slash was:
Cut bamboo clips through everything before mostly disappearing:
Don't get me wrong. It's fine for a game, but it's such a weird thing for a "journ*list" to bend over backwards to praise as impressive "tech".
Anyways, here's a clip:
