My bad, it was Stephen Totilo, but close enough. Also, it is a horizonal slash but it still doesn't line up with the cut.

I'm not sure what you're calling nerdy. I don't care about the bamboo at all. The point was just that it's not the least bit impressive for a game coming out in 2025 (wouldn't have been impressive even 5 years ago). So, why is a Kotaku journ*list praising it? Because they'll do anything they can to push sales for games on "their side".

Greedfall is the one game I haven't played from Spiders yet. Was too expensive for AA initially, and havent had time/motivation for it, other (obscure) RPGs are more important atm.
I did also like Alpha protocol, but I'd put mars war logs & technomancer closer to Mass Effect then AP. companion system in those is way closer to the Bioware formula and has not as much of an effect on story/gameplay as dialogue/relationships in AP.

even after hating outerworlds to the point i never finished the game, i'll still give this one a chance. i'm a sucker for open world games and with the next elder scrolls still 10 years away, maybe this will fill the gap.
as i sit here i'm planning on getting it in a couple months on sale for $30 or $40 but it's just as likely i buy it full price in the next week or so.
i haven't read any reviews or previews or watched any gameplay video or spent a single second learning about what the game actually is beyond "it's kinda elder scrolls". i don't see myself reading/watching anything before buying it.

so i got a month of gamepass to try it out and i think it's...pretty good. surprisingly good. maybe i just had low expectations? who knows.
they did a better job ripping off elder scrolls with this than they did ripping off new vegas with outerworlds. i'm only a few hours in so maybe it'll all drastically change? but the exploration and combat are fun and that's pretty much all i care about.

It's everywhere, enemy design, particle effects, weapon grades, UI and menus. And it's not just bright colorful games that have this, even Doom Eternal does it.
