This is pretty wild to me. MS pretty much dominated the XBox 360 hardware generation, but has pretty much continually screwed the pooch since then.
It feels like MS just crashed out overnight and keep making r-slurred mistakes preventing them from getting back on top.

I think it's gotta do with PCs and the lack of exclusives.
Used to be you'd have a console so you can play MGS, or play it on your giant TV. Now computer monitors are big, and porting is easy. MS was smart enough to cut its losses fast and try to start getting in on PC gaming, where it already had a foundation built.

Pc market increased only because China and India were let in. Like 60% wow players are chunks. When consoles become more common in China and India things will improve for consoles market since there are many Chinese pc players because they have many rich folks but for majority of chinks pc gaming is expensive so they play mobile games.
But MS mistake was that at first they thought exclusives don't matter and that pc and consoles g*mers ain't the same folks and that gamepass would work.
They 100% now thinking how to get rid of gamepass

The Wii dominated that generation. MS decided it was because people loved motion controls and showed up way late to that party with the kinect. Then they told everyone that the future of consoles was all-digital home entertainment centers a decade before people were ready to hear that. Now they're desperately shilling gamepass as their entire ecosystem crumbles around them.
They'd outsell Sony 5-1 if they made the next gen CoDs exclusive. They don't even want to sell consoles anymore though, they'd completely stop making them if Sony would allow gamepass on PlayStation.

They had to promise to make COD multiplatform for a decade during that monopoly trial. So they screwed themselves again because xbox console will probably be dead by then.

Nah gamepass is a dead end. It's not going to work on PC and it won't work on console if nobody owns an Xbox.
It's cheaper to just buy a huge library of cheap old or indie games and wait for sales on everything else. Within a year or two you come out ahead. For people that already have their own libraries it's already not worth it outside of maybe grabbing it for a couple months every 2-3 years to try a handful of games out.
