Nintendo has confirmed that some Switch 2 games won't have the game on the cart, the cartridge will only be used as a license check and the game will need to be downloaded pic.twitter.com/boY4qJrDph

But why?
The only benefit I see is if you wanted to loan the game to a friend you could still do so.
But for the average person wouldn't you see more benefit from just downloading a fully digital version from their online store? Who wants to have to put in physical cartridges to play digital downloads?

Because they're basically SD cards and they're still pretty expensive relatively speaking. They can't just arbitrarily increase the price of a game just based on how big the game is because people won't accept it. So instead if the game is really big you just have to download it.

Once again you're r-slurred.

Even if they're cheaper than Amazon yes which they are, Nintendo isn't shelling out for 256gig advanced sds for cod. The other sds are cheap and nearly every switch 1 game is under 20gigs.

But couldn't I just go download it from their store and skip the whole cartridge thing? Does Nintendo not do that like Xbox and PS5 do? And you know they're going to charge the same $80 regardless of physical or digital.
And even still, why not just have the cartridge's key added to the user's Nintendo account so they don't have to keep putting a cartridge in to play a game that's not even on the cartridge?

Bro you have no fricking idea. I'm in the army as an IT guy. Half the unit can't install a program properly. Everyone had to install Microsoft teams and I basically had to do it for half of them and write a video chat etiquette guide. Everyone kept leaving their mic not on push to talk and leaving calls randomly.

My grandma bought my dad a nintendo and everything still works, bing bing wahoo.
My dad bought me a nintendo, and the e-store went offline. They didn't have the decency to wait 10 years.
The Nintendo DSi shop went online in 2009, and they took it down in early 2017.
Fortunately, the games are stored on the cartridge.

To be absolutely fair to Nintendo, this is basically how the PS5 works. Game data is copied wholesale from disc to the SSD and the disc is then used only as a DRM check to launch the game (of course it still whirrs like a motherlover to do that). And the full game data not coming on the cart was already pretty common for third parties on Switch 1.

Except you could still trade/loan or resell the game.
Missing the point entirely.
Always amazing how Burgers are so eager to happily give up any consumer rights they had.

Where does it say you can't do that for Switch 2? You can do that with PS5 games.

Ah yes, the right easily piratable drm free video games. Remind me, what article of the constitution was that again?

What?
You do understand that the constitution doesn't contain all legal rights and protections in the USA...oh who am I kidding you're r-slurred.

lol the games will still be pirated. thats the absurdity of these annoying DRMs - they dont actually prevent piracy, they just annoy people buying the games. the entire point of the DRM is to give them a month of sales before the piracy reaches peak levels, because they always end up cracked.

I don't even understand how pirating came up or how this r-slur took anything in that context of what I wrote to assume I was talking about pirating.
I specifically mentioned trading, reselling and lending.
