Edit: this video of him explaining himself is more thorough than the article itself

edit 2: since this i gaining traction we should all recollect the story of Gary McKinnon and why the US gov wanted to extradite him so badly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_McKinnon

He claimed to have hacked the pentagon and discovered that the US gov not only had secret alien tech but also had "non-human" officers in the military. He claimed the US gov had craft that looked like this, one called the USS Lemay and another Called the USS Hillenkoetter

All the discussion on Reddit surrounding this guy is filled with arrogant morons, just like that of AI. They're all also convinced that a bunch of other paranormal shit is real, along with gnosticism. What is it with UFOs attracting r-slurs that have no intellectual filter?

These people don't realize that the "skepticism" from the scientific community that they malign isn't caused by fear; it's caused by intense dislike of people like them.

I actually liked the Garry Nolan vid and I do agree with him about how aliens would "visit" the Earth (i.e. they'd use drones to study us). That's been my thought for a while, although I still somewhat fancy the dark forest hypothesis, as well. I don't necessarily agree with his certainty about the reasoning behind the recent government actions. There's a multitude of explanations for those, not just extraterrestrial intelligence.

I just get tired of people who are so certain about "their" narrative. Aliens/paranormal, neolibs, Marxists, chuds, progressives, singularity. Doesn't matter who.

>patent

I'd be careful with Salvatore Pais. I remember reading about that years ago and IIRC, he's put forth other very speculative patents (just went looking and found this and this). Some of the skeptical commentary about it was saying that these patents don't really make much sense. I don't have the knowledge to really pick them apart, nor do I have the desire to sift through them and come up with a solid rebuttal, even if I could.

As for why the US govenment would greenlight these patents? Again, this is the US government. The most intriguing "mundane" answer I found is that stuff like this is an elaborate disinformation campaign to trick foreign adversaries into devoting time and resources toward chasing pointless rabbit trails. I also remember reading back when this happened that there was a new higher up in his USN department and that he may have piqued this guy's interest. In other words, he finally found a sympathetic ear who let him file these patents. Finally, speculative stuff like this can start discussions. Maybe the department just wanted to throw the ideas out there and see what came of them.

>hacker

The first thing I will point out is that this dude is from Britain and that Theresa May blocked the extradition request. If Snowden had been from Britain, I gaurantee you the US would have successfully secured his extradition. The US government doesn't frick around with stuff like this. If he really did cause enough damage to bring down the US Army's systems in Washington for a full 24 hours, then there would have been a lot of very pissed off US officials that wanted his head. Just letting someone get away with a hack of this scale is enough of a risk on its own.

That being said, assuming he wasn't just lying to draw attention to his accomplishment and/or garner public sympathy, he could have very well misinterpretted the documents. He also might have just seen the same pictures/testimonials that have since been publicly released, like that of the cigar UFO. He also made those statements in 2006, 4 years after the hack. He was able to walk around freely up until June 2005 and made these statements a year later. The timing is a bit suspect, to say the least.

A big part of patents is that you have to explain how they work/that they do in the filing. Perhaps its disinfo to get other countries think wr have the tech.

The first thing I will point out is that this dude is from Britain and that Theresa May blocked the extradition request. If Snowden had been from Britain, I gaurantee you the US would have successfully secured his extradition.

Snowden is a US citezen. Any ally country would hand him over. McKinnon is a UK citizen so thats why he got protection from the UK gov.

Yeah, I know. The UK would have extradited Snowden to the US if he was a UK citizen. Assange was gonna be extradited but he fled to the Ecuador embassy.

He's not at the embassy anymore, but still not in US custody. Also Assange is an Australian citizen not UK so similarly he doesnt have the same rights as a british subject/citizen

He had to stay in the embassy for a decade because European governments were going to extradite him.

Also Assange is an Australian citizen not UK so similarly he doesnt have the same rights as a british subject/citizen

...are you being deliberately obtuse? The point is that if there is someone that the US really wants in an allied country, they will get them. If this kid had definitive proof of extraterrestrials obtained from US gov/military servers, then the US government probably would have forced the UK to hand him over. It would not have been something Theresa May could have blocked without immense repercussions.

Robots and AI process time differently. And if there is alien life visiting us, it is more likely to be synthetic than biological. Further, what would they be doing here? Let me tell you. If I were a synthetic life form and incapable of evolution through biological reproduction, I'd cruise around the universe looking for incubator planets, seed them with a biological lineage similar to whatever produced its AI in the first place, and let it rip until it produced a new AI-- aka a baby. I'd then integrate that artificial evolution into my program, wipe the incubator planet, and start it all over. Seems obvious.

It looked like it moved in a straight line from one end of the sky to the other but it would sort of "blink" where it started as a tiny point if light and expanded into a ring then disappeared. In between blinks it was invisible but it did this in a straight line from one end of the sky to the other. It was a very bright blue colored light

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Probably a satellite. The ring you saw might have been it reflecting the sun once it reached the horizon.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Usually satellites are just a solid light that disappears once it reaches the horizon such as the ISS (which you can confirm if you've seen by using the ISS tracker) but I have seen satellites that you described that blink as well and from what I read it is do to their solar panels spinning and reflecting the light so it appears to turn on and off. but the size of the light is the same it just fades in and out.

I've also seen Starlink before and it's a straight line of lights that disappear one by one when they get beyond the point where the sun hits them

But thats not what I saw on this night the thing literally expanded from a small point into a large ring of light (if you held a dime up to the sky it was about that size) then disappeared.

Read up on Fermi's Paradox and The Great Filter.

Life began on earth 3 billion years ago and these supposed ayylmaos had a 11 billion year headstart on us.

Imo if any of these neighbors were ever gonna reach us, they would have already by now. Guess there's just too many filters that keep y'alling them ayylmaos back to square one :gooby:

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

We've only been broadcasting radio waves for an extremely small amount of those years, and the broadcasts, even though they travel at the speed of light, only have reached an area within a bubble with a diameter close to 200 light years. Even if ayylmaos existed within that area and had received a message, they most likely wouldn't depart immediately without sending messages first, which themselves would take a long time, and if they did decide to travel they would take much more time to get here than it took our signals to be detected by them.

Nerds looked at the data using some realistic numbers and it turns out fermi is trash and there is very good chance we are alone.

But even if we are not, the distances in time and space are just too cosmic to overcome and copers thinking the universe allows a work around using this one weird trick grows increasingly unlikely.

Why do you think aliens would even want to deal with us? Would we want to establish diplomatic relations with some backwards shithole in Africa with no natural resources or worthwhile technology? Of course not. At most, we might assign an ambassador or intelligence operative to keep an eye on things and make sure to alert us if they ever developed into a threat. Otherwise, we'd let them wallow in their own stupidity under the pretext of "enlightened non-interference."

To aliens, we are probably the equivalent of the backwards African shithole. Your idea that it's statistically totally sus that aliens exist but haven't made contact only makes sense if you assume that they want to make contact. What if we disgust them but simply aren't important enough to kill?

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

To aliens, we are probably the equivalent of the backwards African shithole

If an ayylmao could get here, we wouldn't be like a backwards African shithole to them. Not even close. More like an amoeba lol. That's how advance they're gonna be compared to us.

If they ever find us (they won't because nobody's out there), we're dead. And not because they care about us and consider us a threat. It'd be because we'd get in the way of whatever they're doing and we'd just be the collateral lol.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I think it all depends on the type of alien we meet. Sure, we may be amoebas to them, but there are different approaches even to amoebas. Some people might say "Ugh, disgusting, get the detergent so we can get rid of this nasty stuff." Others might say "Fascinating, a new species of amoeba. Let's study it!" Another group might say "Interesting, I wonder if it has any potential military or medical applications." And still others might say "Look how strange it is, maybe we can make an art installation out of it."

iirc:

Fermi paradox: the universe is so big and time is so long that the odds of two advanced(space faring or otherwise) civilazations run into each other is statistically remote and unlikely.

great filter: all civilaztions run into a common catastrophe that leads them to destroy themselves(or be destroyed by something, see dark forest theory) before they can become successfully spacefaring/run into other alien civilizations.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Maybe it’s the sci-fi nerd in me, but I’ve always loved the dark forest theory. It is much less likely than the other two, but so much more badass

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I think fermi says there should be some observable effect on the universe from other life but we find absolutely nothing hence the paradox.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Me? No. Chatgpt? Here you go

The Fermi Paradox is kind of like that, but with aliens instead of kids. There are billions and billions of stars in the universe, just like there are lots of kids at a big party. Some of these stars are even like our own Sun, and they might have planets around them, just like Earth.

Now, if there are so many stars and planets out there, we might expect that there should be lots of aliens too. But here's the tricky part: we haven't seen any aliens yet, and we've been looking for a long time.

So scientists wonder, "Where are all the aliens?" They call this the Fermi Paradox, named after a smart scientist named Enrico Fermi who asked this question a long time ago.

If the kids at a party thing threw you off then it's because I originally asked it to explain it to me like I'm a 5yo lol

The Great Filter

Certainly! The Great Filter is a concept that suggests there might be some big challenges or obstacles that prevent civilizations from advancing and spreading out into space. It's like a tough test that civilizations need to pass. If a civilization fails this test, it might not survive or progress further. We don't know exactly what this filter is, but it could be things like natural disasters, self-destruction, or other difficult problems. The existence of the Great Filter could explain why we haven't seen any advanced alien civilizations yet. It's a way to understand why the universe seems so quiet and empty, despite the many potential opportunities for life.

Neighbor I was exaggerating but you are as well. Even if they had a 2-3 billion head start on us, heck even 1, that's a lot of frickin time. A craft using an inertial mass reduction device comprises of an inner resonant cavity wall, an outer resonant cavity, and microwave emitters. The electrically charged outer resonant cavity wall and the electrically insulated inner resonant cavity wall form a resonant cavity. The microwave emitters create high frequency electromagnetic waves throughout the resonant cavity causing the resonant cavity to vibrate in an accelerated mode and create a local polarized vacuum outside the outer resonant cavity wall.
