If a subreddit's mods could actually trust each other (LOL), the solution would imo be malicious compliance/lying
One person volunteers to take over as top mod. They click buttons with less thought than usual. Admins say open up? Sure, it's open. Now, a couple of days later, it's restricted. Or a nasty thread is pinned. Change the automod scripts to introduce unhelpful mistakes. Literally whatever.
Stretch it out until Reddit demands a new top mod, give Reddit someone else, have them do the same thing.
Admittedly, this would require coordination, trust, and not actually being a mad power-hungry c*nt.
