Straight up been feeling like that south park episode for years now.
I know it's not just me being depressed, because I get so much enjoyment from older movies, music, books... and there are of course non-dooky things that come out here and there. They're almost never popular.
I'm just listening to pretty well known 60s/70s/80s music and imagining how on earth I could've disliked it if I was around back then. I don't think I'm just being a contrarian and disliking what's popular.
How did we go from Woodstock to Lizzo? How did we go from original blockbuster movies coming out left and right in the 80s to blockbusters being purely capeshit, remakes/reboots, and capeshit wannabes?
More importantly, will this era of cultural stagnation ever end?
Is Western culture dead forever? Am I just a trans-boomer?

in simplest possible terms, it's because old shit was 30% propaganda and 70% story, at worst. modern shit is about 80% propaganda and 20% story, at best.
where people generally lose the plot is when they start trying to assign blame. jews, aliens, reptiles, european white people, jesuits, patriarchy blah blah fricking blah. every single major origin theory has a community of insane and r-slurred people around and in it who've mostly put aside detective work for emotional back-reasoning. the same is true for the filthy haram normies who insist none of this shit is happening, how dare you believe your own lying eyes?
the world is mostly mind-killed at this point, if you take any consistent community and run the clock backwards, the changes are rapid and vast. look at what kind of drama was dealt with five years ago vs. now. look at what was considered extreme porn five yeas ago vs. now. if you change the timescale to a decade or two shit gets even crazier.
we are living through what's generally called 'the singularity' but you can't see that from the outside, and it's only when you stop and mentally zoom all the way out that it becomes more apparent.
anybody who tells you they know exactly what's going to happen next is lying to you, either intentionally to exploit you or unintentionally because they're fricking stupid. suffice to say, prepare for shit to get worse and hope it doesn't. make yourself less dependent on large and complex societal systems and learn how to actually turn touching grass into "ate food that came from the ground i live on".
