This store got split 25 fricking cases of boneless chicken breast.
Now one thing you have to realize is store level workers tend to be r-slurred unless they're salaried asms so they won't know what to do in this situation unless you nudge them.
I go to the meat department and ask the manager about the split.
I say "that's a lot of chicken, no way you sell all of that at full price eh? Maybe you do an APR to unload it. 59 cents a pound would probably do it."
Next thing I know I walk out with over 40 pounds of heritage farms boneless chicken breast at 59 cents a pound.

It's not rotting or bargain lol. You guys really dont know how this stuff works. If the company over buys product they do distros because the warehouse is zero shrink.
The chicken was brand new - the warehouse was just heavy on it.
If you can identify what the warehouse will be heavy on (like for example you know people there, used to run the warehouse, and have access to internal sales data) you can predict which stores in a given district will be heavy on various products and then go get shit for absurdly low prices.
When I got those entire slabs of prime rib for literally 5 dollars a pound this is how I did it.
I knew the company was really heavy on it. I ended up getting each slab for like 35 dollars, the regular price being over 200.
I got like 15 steaks out of each one too. This was all brand new stuff.
Look at it like this - selling it for t dollars a pound reduces your margins, shrinking it out is a loss.
The company calculates these differently. I'd rather sell something at 80% below cost than shrink it out or have it count as over delivered in a given order cycle.
They actually calculate over-delivered as shrink too, even if you sell it over say, 6 order cycles. So if the warehouse sends you 25 cases of something, and you sell 2 a day, and the order cycle is 2 days - you should apr it to nothing and get rid of it.

1. you didn't even answer the question lol
2. people with jobs that pay enough to buy regular priced chicken generally can't walk in to a store and strongly suggest a new sales strategy even if we somehow did figure out they were extremely heavy on that product so while your write up is indeed a fascinating glimpse inside the life of a walmart wagie it's not very useful for most people.

So is it fresh, never frozen? I don't understand why they wouldn't just keep it frozen and sell it at normal price.

You should start a PokΓ©mon and chicken emporium. It would probably do well in a great location like Old Town.
