Yeah, I didn't read too deeply into that first piracy one. I've seen it pop up and not cause issues with obtaining clearance as long as it's been a long enough time + remorse/explanation was given.

Something I wonder is how well can they actually do that? I know they've got the tools to learn anything but can they do so without a warrant? Or is your job application all the warrant they need? How important of a role do you need for them to even bother? Military intelligence guys keep getting their clearances despite having egregious Groomercord accounts they leak classified documents on.

Yeah it's not as robust as you would think. They're literally just looking at your social media, and it's a quick scan at that. They aren't going back in time and reviewing your home internet traffic, packet by packet.

They don't actually care if you pirate media. It's only an issue if you are an absolute r-slur and rat yourself out. I'm pretty sure they're more concerned that you're stupid enough to tell on yourself over something so small. But if you tell them about it, they will investigate it.

Not just the glowies, this type of problem is crippling the entire defense apparatus. Official policy is they won't let you join the military at all if you've ever been diagnosed with a long list of mental illnesses or done drugs harder than weed at any point in your lifetime (though they're so desperate right now that this policy is being quietly ignored).

Now that all of this medical and other lifestyle info is tracked digitally and can be checked by recruiters (they can see your digital medical records), they're finding out wayyyyyyy more than they ever wanted to know about all of the applicants and like 1/3 of all burgers are disqualified going by the official policy on paper. You used to be able to lie by omission about this kind of stuff and as long as you kept your nose clean while you were serving you'd be fine.

Have you actually read any of these? If you get a denial for a debt (or other reason) they send you a document about their reasons for denial. The linked documents are appeals after that initial denial statement and if people actually demonstrate an effort to make payments on even large debts they give clearance. Also these are for defense contractors and not service members

This tbh. I was once interviewed by a few of these weird fricking feds as a personal reference for a friend of mine in the USAF who got optimus prime clearance. To call them dry or human would be an exaggeration.
