The comic in question makes the same uninspired complaints you've all heard before: long wait times, not enough doctors, not actually free. Spicier then her usual "look at me I'm a quirky girl" comics, but still long and unfunny.
The reactions, however, are hilarious.
"FREEEEEEEEEEEEE"
< privilege
(this Marsey is so useful)
My favorite comments are the ones accusing her of being American.
She's Canadian, not American
I know, I read her responses, my meme still aplies tho
All in all, quite a bit of seetheposting from poor amerifats that can't afford insurance. Probably her best comic ever. !pinknames

Leftoids like to pretend free healthcare = the healthcare you get in the US but you don't have to pay
In every country that has it though, to get actual service you still need to pay. There's just this additional joke healthcare system you can go to if you want to wait six months to see an unqualified "nurse" who did a two hour online course, who will tell you she doesn't know what's wrong

It's hilarious how the post about brain washed and propaganda
Like neighbor who do the politicians work for and who are they in charge of? Ummm is it the government?
We've had shit healthcare under NDP, Liberal and PC governments. It honestly was probably the absolute worse during Bob Rae's NDP in the late 80s early 90s when they were laying off nurses and closing hospitals for “Rae Days” because they'd literally nearly bankrupted the system and had no money to pay healthcare workers salaries.

Why do Americans think you need insurance? They still treat you. Give them a fake name and leave. If you show up unconscious and they get your name from your wallet, just straight up don't pay. Did you consent to all that shit they did? Heck no. American healthcare is the most free in the world.

feds handle about 25% of healthcare costs, provinces do the rest
the big thing is demand has massively spiked in Canada w/ people getting old and massive boost in immigration, but gov has mostly just kept the growth rate in spending the same as previous years not significantly spiked it to match demand.
even though I'm libertarian leaning I'm an unironic supporter of public healthcare, but matching demand<> supply is always a massive problem and costs shift to everyone not just the biggest consumers (old dying boomers)

The important thing to understand is that though most Americans are doing well financially, the majority also think that other Americans are struggling. There was this Economist article where they polled people and 80% said that they were personally doing well but also 80% said that most people were struggling. Every American thinks there are faceless masses of struggling impoverished Americans crushed under medical debt and inflation, they just haven't met any.

Even Medicaid probably isn't that terrible compared to the rest of the world. We do have a lot of problems with our health care system (like the government getting massively ripped off) but I don't think there's many people uninsured anymore.

There are some healthcare plans where if you don't read the fine print you can really get fricked. Example:
Had a kid a couple years ago, we were on foidwife's insurance. Figured it was state employee insurance, we're good, right? Well turns out that the max deductible still required 10% of all costs from the insured after that. $8k out of pocket as a hospital bill after insurance was a fricking surprise lmao
We were able to foot it just fine, but switched over to my insurance right after for a full coverage after deductible plan, and got a little more wise after that pain in the butt

I am constantly amazed that peeople dont know what a max OOP is.
Jump in the discussion.

Well whatever ours was on that plan, I can see how it would wreck the types of people who can't readily pay for a few grand within a month or two.
Funny side point: I remember going over the itemized bill and the dichotomy between two points made me laugh:
lactation consultant spending 5 minutes in the room (useless): ~$700
200 oxy pills: $1.80 total

Coinsurance is really common but there's typically a max out of pocket. Which was probably close to 8k for a family plan. So it's not really infinite, and you can't incur costs above a certain limit (probably around 10k for a family plan) per year.

Friendly reminder that universal healthcare in Glasgow resulted in a senior citizen laying on the floor for 40 hours waiting for the ambulorry.
He died before they arrived.
The average wait time for an ambulance in America is less than 10 minutes.
Neighbor it's the same thing. Funding determines quality. If your current free* healthcare results in low quality, you either need to pay more taxes or pay directly for higher quality.
