Those jobs pay like that because theyre fricking awful. My uncle owned a construction company in florida.

Like clockwork every summer when the mexicans dried up me and my cousins would be out there doing roofing, framing, all kinds of stupid shit in the florida heat.

We didnt even get paid. I wouldnt do those jobs for 80 an hour.

The mexicans were smart enough to avoid working like that when it got really hot.

I still remember my uncle in his nice butt truck watching us and getting out every hour to inspect anything we had done only to return to his truck because it was "really hot."

Years later he said he was trying to build character.

Teachers really have no perspective. Is it an easy job? No. But I walk into an air conditioned classroom and talk at middle schoolers, and I only have to do that 9 months per year. People who work around lethal amounts of electricity or spend 8 hours per day within a few feet of falling to severe injury or death have tough jobs and should be compensated for it. The working conditions are part of the package.

Should we expect people with 70k in student loan debt (did they go to Wellesley :marseywtf2:) who went into teaching to be rational individuals? :marseysmughips:

63 is really high for a junior/ apprentice electrician. I think he said somewhere his brother runs one of the largest electrician companies in Charlotte so their is probably some nepotism going on

Jump in the discussion.

63 is high for electricians, even in Charlotte. I can't get it to drill down to specifically union journeyman, but still.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17198395405095253.webp

Only way you're getting $63 is using that magic Union Math™ that includes every benefit they offer, valued at the rate they say it's worth, which you can't exchange for beer.

In California, the average is 45.

I had a buddy who was a plumber in Myrtle beach, the master plumbers there were pulling in around 100k a year (after 10 years of experience and focusing on mostly on commercial jobs)

I actually have no idea how wages are calculated at that point when union stuff gets mixed in.

I figured nepotism got him a golden package plus union stuff

Every estimate I've seen for electrician salaries in my region on glassdoor or anywhere else has been at most 2/3rds of what the companies in my area are paying. Google :marseygetgle: gives a similar $32 estimate, while a local non-union company that was once notorious for underpaying their staff :marseysunwukong2: is advertising $50/hr for a ticketed electrician. $63 for a fresh :marseybellpepper: apprentice is complete bullshit :marseyitsallsotiresome: though.

I still have to wonder if it's actual "beer money" pay or ✨ Union Pay ✨.

My paycheck says $40/hour. But if you add in my insurance, 401k company match, 403, company truck, fuel card, etc, it becomes """$84/hour""".

I've never :marseyitsover: seen a company offer :marseywithcake: different :marseyvenn3: rates for resi work than commercial work. $53,000 salary only works out to $25/hour if you work 40 hours a week for 52 weeks a year. It's almost like your salary to hourly will look extra low if you take all summer off :marseypikachu2:

You are indeed an r-slur. Your salary to hourly will be especially high if you work fewer hours because that's how denominators in fractions work.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

What I meant was, if they put their pay into a "salary to hourly" calculator like they did, but leave the default 40 hour per week 52 week per year, it will say they make $25/hour. If they put their accurate number of weeks (39 or whatever) it would say $33/hour. I know this because I tried it before making my comment. It looks lower if you distribute 39 weeks of pay across 52 weeks of the year like they did.

If you would like to try https://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/salary-to-hourly.php

It's not that I misunderstood what you did. I'm just saying that, if you put in more hours than you worked into that calculator, then it ceases to be a "salary to hourly" result except for a hypothetical, different job.
