TLDR: to avoid "spoilers" marvel is now locking the final page of each x-men issue behind a QR code which you scan and pulls up the final page. The final page is just a normal static image which serves as the cliffhanger or shoe drop hook for the next issue as is common in most comics. Luckily though these pages will be printed in future printings of the issue telling customers to just not buy your new comic until well after its released.
Drama has emerged as comic Pros and shills come to tow the line:
"Ur a weird incel if you dont like DRM in physical media"
https://twitter.com/GailSimone/status/1816253266604482675
"What if it was the editorial content which has just always been a page in comics?" (It isnt even that its a page of story content)
https://twitter.com/FabianNicieza/status/1816259222285201454
Like here are the pages they are clearly normal butt comic pages:
so all the cope about it just being an AD or editorial stuff is a lie.
Still not gonna stop shills from just spewing the company line:
"its just a BONUS page!" well if it is to prevent spoilers how can it be just a throwaway ? Again its all very clearly content which would be a last page hook in any other comic.
https://twitter.com/cthulhu_queef/status/1816158104272396799
"its super cool and unique to read the last page on a 6 in screen instead of a normal comic!"
https://twitter.com/BrightShirtOne/status/1816176157525712988
Again my own take is that this is just some misguided DRM trying to stop piracy kiddies who read comics and manga on they phone "hey kids cant scan a qr code with a phone if its own your phone" and I guess to prevent spoilers if an issue leaks early since the server hosting the qr codes only launches on release day, which will just fail in the long run as people either just wait for the trade lowering sales, or pirate the book since pirates will just download the bonus page and bundle it in.

Anime and manga suffer from some pretty fricking awful problems themselves so it says something when Western comics have managed to be even worse. Capeshit is like if anime and manga actually was nothing but isekai.

I'm not into comic books but
1. Can't read entirely offline: lol
2. In 20 years when the URL goes down you now are missing the last page: lol
3. You can't resell a comic with a missing page and I thought being a (((collectible))) was part of the marketing: lol
4. Your comic can be changed by a woke corporation at any time: lol
5. Want to read the last page? Better accept our tracking cookies. Oh and later we might make you make an account. And after that when we're in crisis mode it will be a SaaS account: lmao

It might also be to get a better estimate of how many people actually read comicslop, since everyone reading it has to visit that site, even if they just borrowed the comic. Plus, with ad-IDs on the phones its probably their attempt to include comics into that ad environment
Maybe also to test the waters if its possible to go fully digital with comics (do i hear a subscription model?) To save costs since comicshit isnt selling for some inconceivable reason.
Down the road i bet it will be used for DRM.

I want to make a joke about the pages at the end of pirated comics I used to read, but I can't even remember their gimmick. It was a few different guys with logos and phrases and most would have some variation of "Like it? Buy it!" And like "King Tut Scans!" Or something like that.
I get that Marvel and DC cause the most drama, but even when you do an neurodivergent efortpust you hover around them too much, when there's so much weird good shit out there. I'm going to knock your socks off with some Goon posting when I get back and balanced.

I'm confused. Are they worried about counterfeit comics?
Jump in the discussion.

No its mostly leak protection like a reviewer leaks review copies or an employee at a distributor or comic shop leaks an issue online before release. Ergo the biggest spoilers will be locked behind the qr code and only reveiwable when Marvel Turns on the servers.

When I used to read comics, I'd often do it because I was away from electronics. When I was out in the woods at the cabin, if I didn't have access to a PC, if I wanted to kill time on a roadtrip, whatever. So the idea of needing something digital for a physical medium seems grating.
Less personally, it seems like it just incentivizes suspense and a cliffhanger as an ending, as opposed to something that has substance and ties up that story neatly. Which works if it's a run or some saga like Annihilation, but on its face it's gimmicky. However, reflecting on comics I look back on fondly as good stories, early Hellblazer coming to mind, the best ones would tie things up with the final page in a way that could make the issue standalone if it wasn't intended to be already. It allows the story to poignantly say what it needs to with a meaningful image and concise dialogue in the final panels. From what I know, comics don't do that anymore really. But by doing this specifically with the QR codes is like an extra step to make sure you can't get a solid ending, and it incentivizes only suspense or pushing for elaborate interconnectivity. Sales over story, which sucks and also doesn't make sense when story is the only way you can get real long-term sales.
