The scam is to get one guy that kinda sorta codes and 20 sexy Indian dudes to fill keyboards. They pretend to work but just mooch off the main lead sexy Indian dude who has middling coding skills. The company takes in most of what we see in these charts.

How do these companies profit from hiring incompetent workers for $80k per year?

Every person they hire is someone they can bill the client.

They just need a face to be there for the calls, it doesn't matter if in the backrooms it's 3 guys working or just 1 doing the job of 3 people

So none of the companies who hire these people get wise to it?

Yes, but just to clarify: it's not like they're in "oh shit, we need to cover for the idiots" mode. It's more of a "no one gives a shit as long as the job gets done".

Interesting. Who keeps them from talking to each other? Or maybe it really doesn't matter because the code is good enough, but neurodivergent people on reddit b-word endlessly about something not being 99% perfect at 5x the cost.

Do you mean the people inside consultancy companies? I assume they do talk with each other and even b-word about the incompetent colleagues.

but neurodivergent people on reddit b-word endlessly about something not being 99% perfect

You can't really do that inside this kind of consultancy companies. Everyone is expected to work on 2-3 projects in parallel, everything that looks like it might vaguely work is going to go through.

No, the companies that hire them. And the reputations of these consulting companies seem to never spread, given how allegedly awful their shit is. It seems like a lot of people ITT ( !commenters) are overestimating costs of "cheap" sexy Indian dude labor while underestimating benefits. :marseyshrug:

*costs includes all the god awful terrible things like "code not up to my neurodivergent standards"

You can't really do that inside this kind of consultancy companies.

Yeah, this person: " but neurodivergent people on reddit b-word endlessly about something not being 99% perfect", is the redditor on reddit and on rdrama saying all sorts of crap about imported codecels.

Just to clarify, I'm talking shit about all consulting companies, not just the Indian ones.

You're a manager that needs to build some software project on a deadline, but you have no team of devs nor any experience in creating one from scratch. It's not a bad idea to ask for help; they're not going to do an amazing job but at least you'll get started with something.

Most of those projects really don't last long enough for the issues to become important, and when they do you can cut the company out and build your own internal team of devs. It's also not uncommon for the devs inside consulting companies to get hired by the client they were working for.

Many developers are working on projects that originally started through consulting firms

I was talking about the companies that hire the consulting companies. The other comment is about the dramaturds ITT.

Large companies have large IT projects and can't afford to hire enough resources to do them in-house, because once the project wraps up, they would have to lay all those people off. Kind of pointless. So they hire out consulting firms. Small fish like me can either piggy back on a bigger consulting firm, or bid on small projects that I can do with like 2 - 4 people max. But they can't hire some nobody to do a big project that's going to take a year, so they go to Deloitte or Accenture or Wipro. They know what the game is with these companies, that they put way more people on a project than anyone actually needs, stretch timelines with ridiculous UAT periods, etc. But they also know that these companies will give them an estimated cost that's close enough to the real bill, and that the project will get done.

I'm dealing with code that Deloitte left behind at my biggest client right now. It's buggy and shitty, but it basically works, and now we'll clean up the bugs and it will be fine. So again, Deloitte might cost your company 50 million dollars to implement something, but they will eventually deliver something that mostly works ok.

Sounds reasonable. So what are people really bitching about? Having to clean up the loose ends?

You'd need to be a real moron to be paying a team of Indians to code while you actually do all the work yourself.

Unless you're actually paying the team of Indians and using them to do everything the client wants and then doing all the work yourself on your own time. :marseythinkorino:

First that same role for an American would be 40-50% more not even including benefits which sexy Indian dudes don't get on contract.

When they hire an h1b, they do so through a contracting firm. One contracting firm. They contract one h1b for 80k on paper, but actually get a whole firm to some degree. The more seats they fill the more support through the few sexy Indian dudes that actually can code they get.

To answer your question, they aren't. Big biz is trying to save a buck by hiring Indians to build something Indians said would take four months, ends up taking a year and a half and the final product is complete shit. Then rhey bring in whitey to fix it and end up paying out of the butt at the point.

The whole point is to show savings on salary on a quarterly excel sheet.

I hear that story a lot on reddit, but how often does it occur, and are the long-run costs overstated? I'm not seeing major collapses of tech firms in the US.

It's like reading too much of /r/sysadmin and becoming overtly r-slurred about cybersecurity.

I mean look around. Your social security number has been leaked probably 100 times because jeets commit API keys into their code. Its not a total collapse, its an enshitification.

Think of it like how Indians do wiring. It looks like it should explode into flames, and it does. Just not all the time.

Is this like the Jews did this meme?

!chuds, I found yet another intellectual weakness among the !codecels.

Apparently, the sexy Indian dudes are all terrible workers that companies continue hire because no one's reputation exists. And these sexy Indian dudes are responsible for every major breach and failure in cybersecurity for the past 20 years.

Jeeted code is a pain in the butt to build on top of, but you can limp along adding new features that don't quite work as well as you'd like.

Making everything work holistically is an entire rewrite, and you'd be an idiot to pay twice for one product so you just milk it as long as you can and sell the company.

but how often does it occur, and are the long-run costs overstated?

A significant chunk of the work consultancy firms get is immediately thrown away as soon as it's completed. Internal company politics regarding fundings, trying to get some governmental grants, POCs built because a manager was sure he was gonna get a client etc.

If the project is actually useful, then the client will actually hire a team and carry on the development by itself, otherwise it becomes just another "internal company asset"

They profit cause there's usually enough somewhat competent workers to make a barely functional product. As long as it works higher ups don't care, in a lot of cases companies like MS and Google (hint hint) make products to generate buzz for a bit and then shut them down when the hype is gone.
