No there's still a list of stuff that has to be redacted:

  • 25X1 - Sources and methods. This is by far the most common. This could be some high tech surveillance method that we don't want our enemies to find out about. But usually it's someone who spied for us or someone who just had a conversation with someone at the US Embassy and could get accused of spying for us. If it's a person then you've got to redact anything that can be used to personally identify them.

  • 25X6 - Would damage diplomatic relations with foreign countries. I've seen this a few times. It means they have to reveal naughty things that the US government has done but not Britain, France, Israel, etc.

  • obvious stuff - How to build nukes, how to get past the Secret Service, how to break our codes, war plans, etc. Stuff that actual spies would be interested in. I hardly ever see these, probably because they wouldn't declassify the document to begin with if it was that important.

One of the defining features of a conspiracy theorist is that they are extremely allergic to actually learning about the topic they supposedly care about. They just want to have an opinion because they saw something in a movie a long time ago.

they have mandatory 25 and 50 year review intervals to declassify old documents, and they still redact certain information to make them unclassified

example, you can't include nuclear restricted data and weapons design, you can't reveal known weapon system vulnerabilities, you can't expose the methods used to gather intelligence, and you can't reveal the name of a spy or informant if they're alive a lot of the time
