THREE DAYS NOTICE!

In today's market, even a month can be tight to secure new housing and move all of your worldly possessions

Frick America (Iowa). Late capitalist hellhole.

Iowa has perhaps the oddest combination of conservative and liberal values in the US

Iowa was historically a purple state and by Midwest standards was fairly liberal. We were like the third state to legalize gay marriage, I think one of the first to let women vote and hold office and to let BIPOCs go to college here. Honestly we had fairly strict gun laws too until a few years ago as well.

The rightoid push has really only happened in the last decade. I think some of it historically was that the religious right was historically not a dominant faction of the Republican Party here and evangelicals still barely exist here. Most religious people are Catholic or mainline Prots (Lutheran) which tend to be more secular.

I'm an Iowan so I can answer further Corncel trivia.

:marseynotes: Interesting the only thing I ever know about Iowa is that Selzer poll drama last year.

They are mostly like their Great Plains neighbors but they have a tiny bit of a cosmopolitan streak you would see from a coastal state. They voted for Obama both times, of course. They've dropped in the standings lately, but they used to have some best ranked K-12 education that they were proud of. It's dropped in the rankings a bit too, but I remember when I was applying to colleges Grinnell was ranked like #2 for liberal arts schools. It's like someone dropped Vassar or Amherst in the middle of a corn field.
