I'd genuinely have a lot of respect for these people if they gave up their families and comfy first-world life out of principles and instead dedicated their lives to charity by helping these people they care so much about, like the missionaries of old.

This isn't just a redditor thing. People with 2 different religious beliefs dating is just generally not allowed. Growing up as a super conservative Christian dating someone of another denomination was considered sketchy. Dating a Catholic was not really allowed.
