Watched the full thing, JD Vance started the fight after Zelensky challenged his words on diplomacy, saying Ukraine did engage in Dipolmacy via ceasefire and Russia didnt. He could have said some generic shit like "yes we hope a strong relationship between Ukraine and America will help end this conflict". Instead he continued to argue about what caused it.
Trump's team is like dealing with the Chinese, you have to let them save face in public when they talk bullshit and appeal to strong-man instincts, not correct them.

The problem when dealing with a narcissist is that the sucking void inside them never fills up, their need to take more never stops. Even if you bow and genuflect and make yourself small, they will push you to get even smaller, to grovel, to humiliate yourself. And the more you do, the more you demonstrate how worthless you are and how great the narcissist is, the more they need to punish you and defeat you...
This is different (although related to) to the unwritten rules of hierarchy in various types of "honor culture". Especially in places where life is cheap and/or competition for survival resources is fierce, coded demonstrations of respect and rituals of deference are important to signal that you're not a threat, and that you are able and prepared to participate according to the rules and norms of the culture. In circumstances where slight insults or casual offenses could lead to violence, people engage in respect rituals as a way of signaling that there are limits to the aggressiveness of their ambitions and intentions.
That doesn't "work" with a malignant narcissist. A malignant narcissist will demand that everyone go through the respect rituals and show obsequious deference, but do so will never clear the air nor establish an understood circle of respect, it will only elicit further abuse. Because the narcissist's need for praise and deference and approval is infinite and constant, it's like giving a crackhead another hit--they never stop needing "just one more".

You're absolutely right, but to be fair, Trump has this effect on most politicians including Democrats and fellow Republicans where his obnoxiousness makes them lose their cool. I think it's cause he taps into a feeling of unfairness where they see him not have to play the smooth, level-headed politician at all while they get slammed by the press for having a fraction of his personality. I just watched 2 of these with macron and starmer this week and neither said very much besides pleasantries and very minor stuff
