Jesus defied social norms by rejecting all capitalist posessions, living a humble life with his disciples, taking on two lovers (John the beloved and Mary Magdalene) and engaging in peaceful protest against imperialists.

I think the "EVERYONE IN HISTORY WAS GAY" types have mostly lost interest in Christianity. The Christian right was big in the Bush years, but it's mostly moribund now, so attention whores and contrarians no longer feel an urge to go declare Christ gay. The remaining mainline Protestants (that is, the kind of people one finds on /r/christianity) are just normie liberals who like Jesus.

They're doing a stage production of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar with a black woman as Jesus, yes. I don't know if it's being filmed for anything though.
