He's right, mostly. If you want to actually survive then you should have already trained in an actual military and in a combat MOS. They keep responding with "well Zelensky said..." yeah of course he's going to take any volunteers because the truth is there's a good chance of them losing Kyiv. And when they likely take Kyiv you won't be fighting DNR conscripts driving logistics vehicles. You'll most likely be fighting Russian infantry who are trained in urban warfare. If you surrender or get captured, Russia isn't known for treating enemy POWs well. Torture is common and summary executions aren't unknown since 2014. It isn't a coincidence that Russia travels with mobile cremation vehicles. A well-trained company can hold off a regiment of poorly trained attackers in a city. A poorly trained company gets surrounded and their bodies get disappeared.
Here are hot takes from COD heroes disagreeing with him and my highly intellectual commentary in response:
Would you tell that to the soldiers at the Alamo? General Washington give up your fight! Innocent Ukrainians are being slaughtered and you give cowardly advice to people that are willing to die for a justifiable cause. Stand your ground!
lol
After that, expect to die. People whoa re dead fight the hardest. If you couldn't handle your combat experience I am sorry.
lol wut
Donβt let anyone tell you what wars you can and canβt fight in.
yeah dad
"I'm an infantry veteran of fallujah and ramadi and I'm still questioning my qualifications"
Lol! This post is pure propaganda. The truth is in modern wars like this, you and your squad need to overwhelm the enemy with firepower and whoever makes the enemy squad retreats wins. It's a firepower battle, you just need to shoot in their direction while talking good cover. You won't he riding tanks, you won't he sniping enemies from a thousand meters. Now of course , you can still get hit, high possibility as there would intense firefights. You also need to be fit and have the courage/morale to fight. But to say that you need to be a decorated war veteran is false. Volunteers can do just as well or better than recruited army soldiers. Type on YouTube "Ukraine soldier guarding bridge has only fired 16 rounds in his life". Many here shoot more rounds than that on an average sunday afternoon.
π
Doesnβt take much of a brain cell to fire a weapon at a opposing enemy thatβs attempting to take your freedom. Tell that statement to the Scottish fighters with pitchforks against the Kingsmen, or the colonies farmers and their simple hunting muskets. 10 plus years prior, and private contract here.

The real answer is that it's really fricking hard to move in gear, fire at enemies who are shooting back and taking cover, often at 400+ meters range. Go set up a basic course on a flat range and see how hard it is to quickly move and engage targets, now consider doing that while tired, wearing a pack and armor, without a really great idea of where the targets will be, and trying to not hit your own squad.
Regardless of reason, putting rounds downrange is the best way to score a hit, but just putting the rounds near the target is pretty difficult

The real reason is the US military has JDAMs to do the killing and the bullets are just there to keep the terrorists pinned down. Also, the guy who wrote On Killing made up a bunch of his shit to push an agenda so none of it is valid.

Grossman is a tard but the round count = victory stat has quite a bit of evidence to back it. It's just that the issues are no "soldiers don't want to shoot people" it's more that it's difficult to get effective rounds on target, and may require advanced technology, training, weapons systems, combined arms and a whole host of other factors that oftentimes have nothing to do with small arms and individual marksmanship (which is still a fundamental skill that everyone should have)

round count = victory? Isn't this just saying the army with the bigger, more reliable supply chain wins? Everything else you wrote seems to be the same thing as what I said, infantry works with armored/aerial elements to eliminate targets. Obviously a rifleman needs to know how to fire his gun, but only high speed tacticool spec ops seem to actually get up close enough to reliably shoot other people, and the recent raid against the ISIS leader hiding out in Syria shows that they'd rather bomb a compound than go in if they don't have to. The only recent battle I can think of where soldiers went into pitched firefights was the second battle of Fallujah but I'm just a dumb civ so what the frick do I know.

I read somewhere that it's because their drill didn't include discharging their rod in order to conserve ammunition - so when they were in the thick of it with explosions and lead all around, they regressed to muscle memory.

That is an r-slured myth. It's from some stupid book, I forget which one, and it got really popular because people are idiots. It's built on the logic of "lots of ammunition is used but not a lot of people get hit". I hope I don't have to explain how stupid that is. Look at history. In combat, 99% of people absolutely will shoot to kill.

Everyone's naive and stupid when they're young and can't really comprehend that bad things do happen in life until they're old enough to have had a few bad things happen to them. Until then, they believe that they're gonna go to war and have an adventure and then come home and impress girls with their bravery. Feels boomerlike having such thoughts, but that's how it goes.

I'd bet a lot of these guys have very little real firearms experience and probably almost none of them are actually trained to handle firearms properly. Airsoft does not prepare you for actually using a military grade weapon while under fire. They'd probably have a panic attack and get ventilated from 5 different directions the second they got in an actual fight.
