The carrier, which has a crew of 1,600, spent fewer than 90 days at sea during its first two years of service after suffering multiple leaks, according to The Guardian.

Seriously tbh I'm sure USA would just give them the tech lul why do bongs not have catobar? Its a 70k ton ship too, such a waste to build large ones like that with ramps.

These were planned out during the 2010 SDR in the wake of the financial crisis and the UK was one of the biggest stakeholders in the STOBAR F-35B and the UK doesn't plan on fighting big boy wars on their own, which is why they don't have the capability to fight anything but a regional conflict with their CBGs.

Tldr bongs are poor and no matter how badly they frick up America will cover them. This is also how they got away with saying that the T45 destroyer number cuts would be justified by the capability of their cooperative engagement capability (which the US has had since the 90s) then cutting the CEC from the single ship that ever had it installed. Also how they got away with fitting half their theoretical combat power as "fitted for but not with" without even the theoretical capability to scrounge together those extra systems in wartime.

Christ it's embarrassing how they poured "Britannia Rules the Waves" down the potty. A small Army and Air force are one thing, but the Navy is their heritage (especially the Rum and Sodomy)

Not really. They have no more real independent policy goals the US doesn't back them on now that they've retreated east of Suez and there isn't the remotest potential of something like the Falklands happening again without significant forewarning. The naval capability the bongs have is fine for their needs. They have the second best carrier force in the world and will for the next decade or so before being eclipsed by China, though there are notable capabilities they lack like any kind of cruise missile for long ranged strike, or an AEW aircraft that isn't a shitty helicopter based bodge job.

Carrier catapults go all the way back to WWII. So them not having one is assuredly for some stupid reason and not that they don't have the tech.

Because the bongs probably would just have more problems maintaining CATOBAR systems, they’ve already been using American navy and coastguard engineering crew for years to make up for their deficiencies

Dude it's one of the main reasons. Europoors just get equipment for driving and flying around their shit country. And they know if they need power projection they go to the US

It's easier with nuclear power because you've already got the steam to operate them, but yeah, it seems like a weird choice if you're going to build a carrier that big.

Probably unironically correct. I've seen the russoid Navy with my own eyes in Murmansk and it was like taking a trip to the 1950s. Half their base had been turned into a coal plant, ships we would mothball they just let rust and sink so that they have all these ancient shitheaps half sunk in their ports, and every sailor we met looked like he was ready to rope at any given moment lmao

The biggest indictment on the Soviet Navy to me is:

>Develop an advanced hunter-killer attack submarine that can dash at 55+ knots

>Pioneer pre-computer automated industrial controls to allow a small crew to fit in it's small hull required for speed

>Develop a never-replicated molten-lead-cooled nuclear reactor to produce obscene power in a tiny package

>Like half the production models become inoperable because the shore-based heating systems just fricking fall apart due to alcoholism and graft lmao

The US has an almost comically OP navy - even if the all the world’s other navies ganged up on you, you’d still win.

Obviously we take the piss out of Burgers for being fat and r-slurred and constantly dying in mass shootings and stuff, but your navy is fricking rad tbf.
