Pajiiti Wells Fargo VP uses fellow passenger as his own personal woman/loo in business class

FIXED LINK HERE: https://fortune.com/2023/01/07/wells-fargo-fires-executive-who-urinated-on-passenger-air-india-flight/

He butt got fired, but not before begging the foid for forgiveness

>A story that seemed too weird to be true just got weirder.

>As Fortune reported yesterday, India’s aviation regulator scolded Air India this week for being “unprofessional” and “devoid of empathy” in its handling of a bizarre incident in late November, in which a male passenger allegedly urinated on a woman during a Nov. 26 flight from New York to Delhi.

>Now that male passenger, who had traveled in business class, has been identified as a vice president at Wells Fargo. Indian police arrested the executive, Shankar Mishra, on Saturday.

>The bank said in a statement on late Friday that it had terminated Mishra, who worked at its subsidiary in India, and was cooperating with local law enforcement, adding in a short statement it found the incident “deeply disturbing.” Fortune reached out to Wells Fargo outside normal business hours but did not receive an immediate reply.

>In a statement sent to Fortune, Air India said it “acknowledges that it could have handled these matters better, both in the air and on the ground.”

>Mishra faces charges under Indian law of obscenity, sexual harassment, and insulting the modesty of a woman. According to The Hindu, a Delhi court sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

>Air India, owned by Tata Group, said it banned Mishra from its flights for a month.

>In India, news of the incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many criticizing the airline for not reporting the matter to police until weeks had passed.

>The victim, whose name has not been released, wrote a complaint to Air India’s chairman the day after the event, demanding an immediate arrest of Mishra.

>Air India said in its statement to Fortune that it acknowledged receipt of the letter and “commenced engaging in correspondence with the affected passenger’s family” on Nov. 30. It added that it commenced a ticket refund on Dec. 2 and convened various meeting in the following weeks. When the victim’s family requested on Dec. 26 that the airline lodge a complaint with police, it said, it did so two days later.

>After the incident, the crew reportedly brought Mishra face-to-face with the victim against her wishes, and he begged her for forgiveness.

>That didn’t go over well.

>“In my already distraught state, I was further disoriented by being made to confront and negotiate with the perpetrator of the horrific incident at close quarters,” she wrote in her statement to the chairman, included in the police complaint from Air India.

>She also complained about the way the crew handled the incident, including initially refusing her request to change seats and merely spraying her urine-soaked shoes and bags with disinfectant.

>On Friday, India’s airline regulator reminded airlines to “sensitize” cabin crew and pilots on topic of unruly passengers, who it said should be dealt with strictly. It added that complaints must be filed to aviation authorities promptly, and warned that non-compliance will “invite enforcement action.”

Almost a month after opening up visa slots for Indian citizens over the weekends, the United States has now announced that it will issue visas to one million Indians this year.

"The US Mission has already processed more than two lakh applications at our Embassy and Consulates in India and we're on track to hit our goal of processing more than one million non-immigrant visa applications in 2023," a spokesperson from the US Embassy in New Delhi told The Indian Express.

In 2022, the US Department of State processed around nine million non-immigrant visa applications worldwide, according to the Embassy.

The non-immigrant visa categories include those for business, travel, students visas and crew visas.

To achieve the target, the Embassy is adding more staff, expanding the scope of drop-box facilities and opening up interview slots over the weekend to smoothen the process for Indian citizens. The waiting time for visas has already decreased significantly.

In January, the US embassy opened up special interview slots on Saturdays for faster processing of visas for first-time applicants, in what it called a "multi-pronged initiative" to address the backlog in processing of visa applications due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The US mission, which has offices in MumbaiChennaiKolkata and Hyderabad besides the national capital, has also increased the strength of its consular staff, it said in a statement.

"The one million visa plan is an India-specific effort, to further strengthen the people-to-people ties between the two countries," says the Embassy spokesperson.

For Indian citizens seeking a US visa, the purview of the interview waiver was also expanded recently.

The drop-box facility, which is used to renew a US visa without having to go through the interview, is now applicable to various categories, including student visas, business and tourist visas, and skilled worker visas.

The department is also increasing the number of consular officers permanently assigned to the embassy and consulates.

"By the summer, the US mission in India will reach its full strength and we expect to process visas at pre-Covid levels," the department said.

While addressing the media in Washington a couple of weeks ago, Deputy Assistant Secretary for visa services in the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Julie Stufft, had said, "India is the number one priority now."

She added, "So far this year, we have issued 36 percent more visas than we did before the COVID-19 pandemic in India. And that is a huge percentage of progress."

Last month, the US Embassy in India said Indians who are travelling abroad can get a visa appointment at the US Embassy or consulate of their destination. It cited the example of Thailand, saying that the country has opened appointment capacity for B1 and B2 visas (business and travel) for Indians.
