This was after Muslim League government bussed in Muslims from East Pakistan, ordered police(whose officers it had made predominantly Muslim in the years leading up to it) into barracks and unleashed mobs on Hindu civilians with the intent to cleanse them out of the entire city so as to stake Pakistan's claim to it. Thankfully our people had prepared to and after a day's slaughter we turned the tables, to extent the govt had to declare a curfew because it was the muzzies who were getting rekt by the fourth day. The Muslim leader who organised all that still has a street named after him in the same city. Gandhi was telling basically one of the largest organisers of this resistance to surrender arms unilaterally.

All poor democratic countries are socialist because the poor are only real electorate.
Reservation similarly was ultimately bowing to demographics. To carry an election you need 40-45% vote share in a multi party system. forward castes were 15%, Muslims 10% and scheduled castes and scheduled tribes made up another 25%. These were demographics INC primarily pandered to, FCs huffing nationalism cope while others were bought(in case of Muslims by sops and acceptance of Muslim personal law, for the other two by sops and reservation). The middle were largely excluded from this alliance. They eventually mobilized and forced through another set of reservations and so now 75% of the country enjoys it.

At least it unified the country. Imagine a world in which the 100+ various princedoms post-Mughal Empire all were autonomous countries today. The subcontinent would make every single international organization useless, because they all function on the principal of one country one vote. Sort of like how all the random Caribbean island countries ruin CONCACAF for Mexico, Canada, and the US, but on a global scale.
