No, it's more than that. It runs the grill at the same time as the convection, and it makes perfect roast potatoes in like 15 minutes.
I thought they were a meme but they're fantastic. They're literally just countertop convection ovens. For lots of things now instead of deep frying I'll toss em in a lil hot oil on the pan and the air fry to fi ish.
Great for making wedges, fries and crispy chicken. It's entirely replaced my toaster oven

Its literally just a small countertop convection oven. If you're only cooking for one/two, its great because it will preheat faster and use less energy than a full oven.

It's also great because it lets you bake 2 different things at two different temps, great if you have a large household or have guests over frequently.

I do and they're good for several things. In particular I find they're the best way to prepare vegetables. I use this mix with steak: diced potatoes with a little olive oil, salt and garlic powder go in first for 10 minutes at 400 degrees, then a mix of sweat peas, diced bell peppers and onions with some oil salt and chili powder to taste are then added after the 10 minutes and it all goes for another 9 minutes at 360 degrees. Twenty minutes for a great veggie side.
You gotta think about it like this: your air fryer is likely built under the max of 15 amps x 120v so max of 1800watts and around 100 watts are gonna be used for the fan, your oven is gonna be on a 30 amp x 240v (mine is 40 amp x 240v) so a max of 7200w (or 9600. so you can make something more energy efficient potentially, but there's really a limit to it and at the end of the day it's a mini shitty plugin convection oven.

I have one, it's good for things like fries or corn dogs. My favorite is slicing up sausage and air frying it, get a nice crisp on the corners. Fries in a standard convection oven take FOREVER.
I dislike the lingering smell of cooking oil you get with traditional deep fryers.
Typical $50 Costco special. I wouldn't get one of the fancy "air fry, bake, rotisserie, and icemaker" triple-digit models.
I have a combination pressure-cooker and air fryer, and use it daily. The thing is a miracle appliance. You can go from frozen to done perfectly in like an hour all in.

I recommend getting the Ninja Foodi if you end up getting one. It's very versatile, and big enough to fit a mini cake pan inside so you can air fry an omelette or something like this:
I have one that's a combination air fryer / toaster oven. It works good. If you like fried chicken, you can do it with minimal effort and although it's not quite as good as the deep fried version, it's close enough to be worth the enormous difference in effort and cleanup. You can also reheat restaurant appetizers that normally get soggy in the microwave, like shrimp tempura or french fries. Any kind of lazy frozen food is totally brainless, you don't even need to add oil. Like I have a bag of frozen breaded shrimp and I just toss them in there for 10 minutes and they're good to go.
I've also cooked stuff like bacon-wrapped scallops in there and supposedly it's good at cooking vegetables too, although I still just use the oven or stovetop for that.
Mine also has a rotisserie attachment, but that part of it is a gimmick because the thing is barely big enough to fit a chicken inside, so it ends up flopping all over everything and it's gross. The chicken is really good that way, but it's not worth having to deep clean the toaster oven afterward.

Yeah. It's pretty good if you want to cut down on oil use. I make falafel in these with a small spry of pan oil. Just make sure you really keep it clean as any crumbs and oils in the bottom of the tray can burn and get real nasty if left there.

Air fryers are just hyper-efficient convection ovens but they're superior to ovens when crisping or searing and they're also great for reheating battered food that you'd normally toss because soggy.
I have a Foodi Ninja that doubles as a pressure cooker and it's pretty versatile. If you have an immersion circulator as well, you can do a lot with little space.

I've got an air fryer function on my oven which is nice. It's definitely worth having, and along with a slow cooker and rice cooker you basically have all you need to make really nice food really easily.

Like most kitchen appliances they have their advantages and disadvantages. I find they do wings better than the oven and it's easier to clean
Most people use them for frozen foods that would normally be done in the oven and I've had varying results depending on the product but i dont eat much frozen slop

my microwave is also an air fryer/convection oven. (Galanz Air Fry Microwave Oven)
it can run in convection+microwave mode leaving whatever you heat up crisp instead of soggy
air fryer mode does everything a stand alone air fryer does EXCEPT the big basket thing, it's a tray so you can't just throw a bunch of shit in the basket and cook it all at once, but most air fryer recipes say not to do that so i don't really miss it

Yeah there's this one brand of frozen fries I fricking love, but baking them is slow and kills taste, while frying is fast but unhealthy and messy
