it's the only joss whedon thing ive ever seen and it's given me psychological scars spanning ten years. the twee low budget costumes are bad enough, as are the gay butt lines like "the status is NOT quo" but also the entire plot is literally just an incel self-insert story. joss whedon imagines himself as the nice guy supervillain who's after the stacey felicia day (lmao, remember when mid butt girls like her were catnip for these limpdick nerds?) and he's cucked by the chad nathan fillion who's actually just a misogynist dudebro who doesnt respect her for her brain like whedon does. then when he gets felicia day killed and becomes a respected supervillain youre mean to think it's like an ebin tragedy that he got what he wanted but not in the way he wanted

it's also a musical that has really shit pacing where every few seconds is another tumblresque song that is about the main character wanting to shoot up a school or something. then instead of moving forward the plot within the song they have major events happen off screen

what's funny is whedon's shit embodies what is obnoxious about forced diversity shit while also being heternormative so it's not even fun to shit on it in a partisan way. the movie wouldve been way more believable if niel patrick harris wanted to frick nathan fillion and felicia day was stealing him off him. that'd be a way more compelling narrative, instead we get his patented token gay character that does literally nothing for the plot and just has one scene mentioning he's gay so you know joss whedon is a good person

Non-Blockbuster Michael Bay is a completely unique and engaging director. This and Pain and Gain are movies where every single decision seems to be made to answer the question of "How can I make this more obnoxious?". While Pain and Gain answered the question with twisted plot, disgusting characters, constant dutch angles and saturation Ambulance has a new tool. Drone shots. Like Netflix nature documentary amount of them. There was not moment in movie where someone not shouting, engine roaring, camera moving whether by weird angle shaky cam or drone. The dialogue has the stalest, cringiest, and crudest cultural references delivered as Marvel style quips and frequent dumb explanations to the audience of what they are doing. The characters are exceptionally brutish and stupid. The plot starts very focused and straight forward but then has weird diversion into LA Mexican gang that pays off with action setpieces. Highly recommended.

I'm through episode 3 of season 2, not sure how I feel about it yet. The premise is interesting enough but it does the Lost thing where it goes out of its way to never explain anything, except it's somehow worse. I'm 13 episodes in and literally not a single mystery in the show has been explained. It's also kind of funny how this affects the writing, the characters go out of their way to never talk to each other about anything important because god forbid the viewer should ever understand anything about the show.

It also doesn't help that most of the characters are uninteresting and/or poorly acted. Harold Perrineau is an ok actor in general but he's carrying the frick out of this show because everyone else is so bad.

I'll keep watching this season but if it goes two full seasons without even hinting at what's going on I might bail.
