That used to be a thing and people just used some site to automatically copy paste news articles with hyperlinks and embedded images for a guaranteed spot at #1-3 on the front page. It was so bad that people were getting to the top of the front page by accident with 0 upmarseys purely by spamming links. Also if you put <a href="https://"> over and over again you could get anything you wanted at the top of the front page regardless of upvotes for like 36 hours

Pings used to also count as links since they're links to profile page, hence why me and joe got so dramafamous from pinging people and it would instantly end up on the front lmao
