It takes years to get good at farming.
If you run out of male gigolos in a war society still runs. If you run out of experienced farmers lots of someones are going to be starving to death.
Farming is one of those few jobs that military will try to actively avoid taking during a war with conscription unless a whole load of other jobs are dead before they reach that group.
Pretty sure even during WW2 farmers were some of the last groups to be conscripted but don't take my word for it I heard it from another commentator.

You are sorta right for now but its actually 600k now if we count the previous 300k so far. About 0.42% of the Russian population has had to fight in Ukraine. Or about 1.26 out of every 300 Russians have participated in the Ukraine war now.

For comparison leading cause of death in Russia is circulatory system disease with 640 deaths per 100,000 Russians, which is about 0.64%.

So in conclusion - There is a small but real chance that in the near future (0-4 more years) from now the leading cause of death in Russia will become participating in the Ukraine war.
