So once again I was right on the money. All the dramatards with the spirit of redditors telling me I was taking fertility rates too seriously were wrong. I was right.

Some valuable quotes from the article:

Last year less than 800,000 babies were born, resulting in a rapid decline that experts hadn’t predicted until 2030.

In eight years time it’s believed the number of women of child bearing age will fall to a point where population decline cannot be reversed.

Prime Minister Kishida Fumio stressed that the birth rate had fallen “to the brink of not being able to maintain a functioning society,”

The fertility rate, which indicates the number of children a woman will have during her lifetime, fell for the sixth consecutive year to 1.30 in 2021.

prompting calls from politicians to increase the retirement age to 68 and have seniors re-join the labor force on a part time basis.

Japan’s life expectancy is among the highest in the world, with 1 in every 1,500 people in Japan over 100 years old.

Japan, on the other hand, has downgraded its economic growth projections for the next two years as it struggles to rebound from the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The east has fallen. S*x is an incomprehensible behavior. Women won't stay in the kitchen. Nobody is there to raise the kids.

hmmmm maybe taking pride in working 12 hours a day isn't the most successful strategy to keep a society functional.

Generated from TLDR This:

Listen 8 min Comment on this story Comment Gift Article Share ROME — Italy seemed poised on Sunday for a norm-breaking election that would give the country its first-ever female prime minister — and its farthest-right government since the fall of Mussolini.

She promises to maintain Italy’s Atlantic alliances and says the country won’t take an authoritarian turn.

On the campaign trail, the leader of Italy’s left-center party, Enrico Letta, argued that if Italians hand power to the right, they would be doing a favor for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has tried increasingly to sow strife in Europe — primarily by withholding energy exports — as his invasion of Ukraine has faltered.

But she and her allies would have leeway on the issue of immigration.

At that point, Italian President Sergio Mattarella will begin consultations with the new parliamentary leaders and representatives from the parties, on forming a cabinet and selecting a prime minister.

The rapid turnover of governments — generally before leaders have time to follow through on promises — has amplified a sense of alienation.

Ukraine is no longer low on artillery ammo because Russia abandoned so much in recent retreats, report says

Ukraine is now well-supplied with artillery ammo taken from the Russian retreat, the WSJ reported.

They just fled and left everything behind."

The US depleted its own reserves of some ammunition in supplying Ukraine, with levels of 155 mm ammunition becoming "uncomfortably low," as one unnamed defense official told the WSJ in late August.

As its soldiers recaptured huge swathes of territory in the northeastern Kharkiv region, Russians dropped their guns and abandoned tanks.

A trove of documents recently released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation show that the shooter who killed 58 people at a Las Vegas concert in 2017 was "very upset" about how casinos were treating him.

The documents provide the strongest indication yet of a motive for the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

Stephen Paddock, 64, a regular gambler who had a penchant for video poker, killed himself at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino before he could be apprehended. The documents provide the most detailed look to date into Paddock's possible motive and gambling habits, delving into the weeks and years before he fired from his 32nd-floor windows into a crowd of 22,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival.

A fellow gambler told the FBI that "Paddock was very upset at the way casinos were treating him and other high rollers," noting that roughly three years earlier casinos had started banning high rollers from certain events, hotels and even casinos.

The gambler described Paddock as a high roller with a bankroll of approximately $2 million to $3 million who preferred playing video poker. The report states that the acquaintance believed the stress about how high rollers were being treated could "easily be what caused Paddock to 'snap.'"

The Mandalay Bay hotel, Paddock's acquaintance told the FBI, "was not treating Paddock well because a player of his status should have been in a higher floor in a penthouse suite."

The collection of FBI documents were released last week in response to a public records request by The Wall Street Journal.

Who was Stephen Paddock?

Paddock gambled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Las Vegas, Reno and other Nevada properties over roughly a decade prior to the shooting, according to records provided to the FBI by the Nevada Gaming Authority that were among the newly released documents.

In 2006, for example, Paddock gambled more than $945,000 and came out with roughly $4,300 in winnings. During September, the month prior to the Oct. 1, 2017, shooting, Paddock had four reservations at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Paddock considered himself a professional gambler, according to the documents, and told one person interviewed by the FBI that it had become his main source of income roughly three years prior to the shooting.

"Paddock purchased handgun out of concern that he had been earning a lot of cash and wanted it as a means of protection," the person, whose identity was not disclosed, told the FBI. The individual told the FBI Paddock had mentioned that he was banned from several casinos because he had "made too much money from them."

An FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit brought together a panel of experts for a yearlong look at what motivated Paddock to fire over 1,000 rounds at the crowd over 11 minutes. The panel concluded that there was "no single or clear motivating factor" that drove him to the rampage.

Another woman interviewed by the FBI at the Tropicana hotel in Las Vegas noted that Paddock would visit once every three months or so, usually during the week to play casino games.

"Paddock only wanted to discuss gambling," she said, recalling that during one stay from Sept. 12 to 14, just a few weeks before the shooting, Paddock lost $38,000.

'No evidence of a conspiracy'

In 2018, Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo said that a 10-month investigation by the department resulted in "no evidence of conspiracy or a second gunman" and no definitive motive for the shooter.

Investigators determined that Paddock spent $1.5 million over two years, including debts paid to casinos; meanwhile, a look at 14 of his bank accounts showed he had $2.1 million in September 2015 but only about $530,000 two years later.

Let it be known to all you conspiracy nuts: He was just mad about shitty comps. Which is why he shot up a random concert going on outside.

Overwatch 2 is set to release very soon and more details are steadily being released including information about one of the original game’s heroes: Symmetra.

In Overwatch lore, Symmetra is a character with Autism, but it was rarely reflected in-game despite comics and other story pieces indicating that she is on the spectrum.

The sequel is hoping to remedy this by making it far more apparent and celebrating her Autism in-game through quite a few voice lines.

In a thread on Twitter, Narrative Designer Joshi Zhang delved into how they’re subtly representing Autism as she dukes it out with and against fellow members of the Overwatch roster.

OW2 is highlighting Symmetra’s Autism in combat

“I asked myself, how would her autism influence her experience on the battlefield?” Zhang explained in a series of posts.

In order to showcase this, Zhang revealed how Symmetra will comment on sensations that please or bother her such as being mesmerized by hard light – a key component of her gameplay.

https://twitter.com/ZhangJoshi/status/1575933461352808463?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1575933479371833344%7Ctwgr%5E7019b0ee1a8a583e3c997f0025ab0bc7a8c710e4%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dexerto.com%2Foverwatch%2Foverwatch-2-dev-reveals-how-symmetras-autism-is-showcased-on-the-battlefield-1947087%2F

One clip the dev highlighted is when she gets a kill on the music-based hero Lucio, she will remark: “finally, I can hear myself think.”

According to the dev, there are plenty of other voice lines that indicate her perspective on things. Surely, there will be a lot to discover when the game is out, and everyone with a proper phone plan can check it out.

“At the end of the day, I hope that neurodivergent members of the OW community feel like they are seen. Autism is not a weakness; it’s a strength to be celebrated by all,” Zhang concluded.

https://twitter.com/ZhangJoshi/status/1575933501123067904?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1575933501123067904%7Ctwgr%5E7019b0ee1a8a583e3c997f0025ab0bc7a8c710e4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dexerto.com%2Foverwatch%2Foverwatch-2-dev-reveals-how-symmetras-autism-is-showcased-on-the-battlefield-1947087%2F

It’s not yet clear what Blizzard has planned for Symmetra once Overwatch 2’s PvE story content is added later on in 2023, but seeing how they’re doing so much to showcase her Autism in PvP, it’s likely that there is much more to come.

Overwatch 2 is set to release October 4 on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch consoles with a mobile port still rumored for the future.

FBI agents have arrested a Texas man on charges that he and six other men gang-r*ped two toddlers in the restroom at Houston's Galleria shopping mall and posted a video of the assault online. Hector Fernandez, 29, who worked at a kiosk in the Galleria, has been arrested on federal charges of sexual exploitation of children. He faces up to life in prison, and a federal magistrate has ordered him held without bond.

The case originated with the discovery by the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation of four videos in "a private, by invitation only, forum on the dark web."

The FBI was consulted and, using image mapping software that searches social media accounts, was able to identify a child who looked like one of the two two-year-old victims in the video. A relative of the child who had posted the image on social media identified a "sanitized' image of the child from the videos. As a bonus, the relative also identified one of the men in the video.

Fernandez previously worked at a store in the Galleria that has since shut down, according to the complaint. Both children seen in the videos, ages 2 to 3, were related to women who also worked at the mall, the complaint said. The Houston Chronicle is not naming the stores or the women to avoid releasing identifiable information about the children.

The women sometimes took the children to their workplaces at the mall when they couldn't afford or find child care, the complaint said. Both women considered Fernandez their friend and previously had allowed him to take the children around the mall while they were busy working, according to the complaint.

...

Fernandez was identified by two distinctive silver bracelets worn by a man present in three of the videos, according to the complaint. Both women identified the bracelets as belonging to Fernandez, and investigators found photo evidence on Fernandez's social media accounts that also showed him wearing the bracelets, the complaint said.

Authorities are unsure when the videos were taken. One woman told investigators that Fernandez walked her relative around the mall once in December 2022 and took the child trick-or-treating without her present in October. The other woman said Fernandez took her relative around the mall once this summer.

I'm not going to make public judgments about Fernandez or his lifestyle based on his Instagram account, but YMMV.

https://i.rdrama.net/images/17051189241354175.webp

This kind of stuff is becoming more and more common. There is an obvious parallel between Fernandez and six of his "besties" raping toddlers and another case in Atlanta that seems to have vanished from sight.

In my view, several things are driving this phenomenon.

Much of this could not happen without social media. It lets these people search out others with common interests. It lets them share videos and what I'd call "tactics, techniques, and procedures." While p-dophiles may be the leading edge, I'm positive that right now, there is a similar “private, by invitation only, forum on the dark web” catering to serial killers.

Second, there is a reluctance by society to recognize that evil exists. Real evil. It is not a lack of impulse control or a personality disorder; we are seeing actual, garden-variety evil. Some people can't be deterred and can't be rehabilitated. We've become too "modern" to accept the presence of supernatural forces. Even Christians, whose entire religion is based on the supernatural, are left trying to find psychobabble explanations for what are patently and obviously evil actions.

Finally, much of society is reluctant to make judgments that would open them to accusations of bigotry. Would I have let @allegedly_hector have one-on-one access with my two-year-old, no matter how many rainbows were in his Instagram profile? No. Because any unrelated male acquaintance who wants to babysit a two-year-old is going to make my p-do-antenna start pinging. Maybe some related ones will trip the alarm, too.

As a side note, in May, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a bill extending the death penalty to child male feminists. This is a direct test of the 2008 Supreme Court decision in Kennedy vs. Louisiana that barred the death penalty for child r*pe. That court majority (Kennedy, joined by Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg, and Breyer) is gone, and the dissenters remain (Alito, joined by Roberts, Scalia, and Thomas) and have allies.

I'm not idealistic enough to believe these people can be deterred, but I think it is important that society express its disgust in a way that can't be mistaken.
