It's a great job money wise, I've bought a house and 2 acres by doing it, but it's really dull and unfulfilling. Also I'm a ruralcel so the employment opportunities suck. I make more than most nurses and skilled trades starting out in my area. I would have to take a nearly 50% paycut to go do the electrician or plumbing apprenticeship. Then work for 5 years just to end up making what I do now. Can't leave the room unless going to the restroom. My boss is cheap so our chairs are archaic so not the most comfortable. this guy gets it! Getting a degree isn't a BAD thing. I should have clarified that--I think education is important, but I've def seen people that I've worked with(and this is anecdotal, so grain of salt) go to college and get a bachelors in whatever thinking that they deserve to work in said field.
for instance--marketing (this is personal to me). Former coworker went to school for marketing, got a bachelors. Did the usual college student tour of food industry and then got a "marketing job" doing some bullshit that isn't even related to marketing and somehow landed some marketing admin position--which has nothing to do with what he went to school for.
My gf went to school for marketing and all they taught her was theory. marketing is like pay per click campaigns, social media, SEO and shit like that. (Obviously ads play a role--hence PPC). She wanted to open a business and I was like--you could do marketing and asked her what she knew? Nada. No cowtools (Idk why this adds cow here.) lmao , no programs nothing, and the same for my former coworker.
He never learned any concrete skills, yet here's me doing personal projects to learn SEO. also, dude has written off LinkedIn as a tool. In many fields it is necessary to network, which albeit I'm bad at.

Vet Tech really is a bullshit field according to my wife. You make about 30-40k and you have to wrestle your 80-100lb patients onto exam tables, prep, know how to sedate them n shit for surgeries etc. etc. They make way less because its a field thats 99% women and they'll rather just collect whatever paycheck they can get than fight for higher pay.
Women in general dont negotiate for higher pay so they're all stuck doing heavy lifting, chemistry and so on for such a shit salary. It's a wonder no economist or even feminist economist bitching about "wage gap" going after perhaps one of the more under paid fields thats mainly women lmao.
