I'm fine with the government paying for Chip Manufacturing Facilities, but the tax payers should own the facilities and get the profits.

Agreed. If we are paying all this money, why can't we have a publicly owned chip manufacturer? It's like we are paying for socialism but not getting the benefits.

Socialism is when the government is one giant corporation that distributes their profits to taxpayers.

It's socialism

but it's also NOT globalism. So I'm torn

nvidia amd apple are gonna be big mad, they have absolutely no fab capabilities. Unless they design a new state of the art fab by themselves I doubt they will a penny out of this.

Intel, Samsung, Texas Instruments etc who actually can establish fab centres are gonna be the big benifitters of this. Its estimated that intel alone would get around $20b from this. Samsung around $10b with their new $900b new fab plans

I heard there are two camps in the bill like "chip makers" and "chip designers" but am unsure whats the portioning of the $50b is to each

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

I think the benefits of being fabless outweighs the benefits of a couple bill from the govt, no?

they report that shit super late most the time, this one they actually reported fairly early though but still "kind of" late. They reported it after the announcement of the bill

but yea there's no enforcement on when they report their purchases, so usually it's not reported until it's too late

Jump in the discussion.

As shady as gov members are, thats not as bad as being an insider trader because its someones husband and it was public knowledge

They don’t have to report until 30 days after lmao, so the plebeians are stuck being poor

Jump in the discussion.

Yeah I’ve been hearing for years that U.S wants to pull chip fab from Taiwan in case of Chinese invasion because of how disastrous it would be if TSMC and the other fabs next door to them went to china. Probably would have bought Intel if I did stock market gambling.

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

You can sort of follow his buys, but he has like 30 days to disclose his trading. By the time you see it, it’s probably too late.

bart explained it at some point; I think they have 15 or 30 days to disclose their trading, so you can do this, but you'd be that many days late.

Still an integral part of the first island chain. No way that the US just abandons them, even if they onshore chip production.

But if China does invade, expect all of TSMC to turn to dust as they land lol.
