Some of my friends in the group chats are sports fans and whenever they talk about sports, they don't talk about the sort of stuff I imagine a sports fan would actually care about. It's not "I hope my team wins the big game " and stuff like that, it's always the meta stuff.
"Hey dude, did you hear the Minnesota Penguins are going to sell their quarterback to Washington Eagles?"
"Yeah I heard coach LeMarius hates Chad Thunderpeepee because he called him the n word back in 2017 so they're getting rid of him. I thought they'd get rid of the coach first, there were rumors he's going to transfer off to either JanuarySixers or Arizona Thunder Warriors"
"That would have been such a shame, he's been with the team for four consecutive Galactic Cup victories, if they win this year too he'll finally get his Stormwind Signet Ring and a statue in the Hall of Fame"
It's always nonsense like this, discussing trades, injuries, transfers etc. I started noticing this a few years ago when I finally googled "fantasy football" after hearing them talk about it every fricking year. Whatever happened to just liking the game? You'd think the average sports fan would be like a FIFA 2023 fan not a Football Manager 2023 fan.

One of the reasons that Redditors "like" F1 so much is that the sport is more about metadrama than the actual races.

I stopped watching sports because it was just too much of a time commitment, and was cutting into time that could have otherwise been spent gooning or rearranging my Funko Pops collection

Following roster moves is fun. Usually people that just watch the games and don't follow the team don't really have much to say.

My Bears are winning the Superbowl in two years. Just you wait and see. First two picks this year, almost on lock. So much draft capital. There's no way team management can frick it up this time.

Are there some trades I don't know about? Because with Fields coming back there's no way they lose more games than the Panthers and the Giants

Panthers pick is a Bears pick. Bears might be able to beat the Packersnot likely but that's the only possible W left on their schedule. I'm counting on the Giants swinging above their weight class the next three weeks. Also Fields is definitely still injured and it's in his throwing hand. He's gonna foomble in numbers the league's never seen.

Giants

Ah ok, yeah they have a great chance at it then…Holy shit that means that the Panthers probably traded Moore and a future first for a pick swap or some other stupid shit to get the worst rookie in the draft class
That's pretty wishful thinking about the Giants, they're one Saquon injury away from being a USFL team. Until Tyrod comes back I don't even see them standing a chance against the Commies/Saints. No way they beat the Pats because Bill will just sell out to stop Saquon

Sports fans are like fans of anything else that has limited content. There are only so many games to watch, then if you want more content, you're reading articles about sports. Then you're on a discussion forum talking about sports. That's the point where people start to know way too much detail about stuff. It's the same thing as people who get obsessed with video games, it's just that it's socially unacceptable to talk about video games in real life, so you don't hear about it in person as much.

Agree about the obsession thing. Disagree about the content. Maybe different for americans, but say your a soccer fan.

I've been thinking about it a bit more, and I think naturally after a while I'd probably want to start feminising my clone a bit. Such as shaving his balls and pubes, keeping him in a chastity cage and forcing him to wear sexy lingerie, wigs and makeup.
I know I wouldn't like that, so I know he wouldn't like that, and that turns me on a lot. Getting into some seriously moral grey areas now. But infinitely preferable to incest.

Talking football, since that is "my" sports.
Because those are easy things to discuss. You don't need a ton of knowledge to say "Oh, he has an injury and will be out for 5 weeks. That sucks, cause the (worse) backup has to play". Or "that good player from another club who has tons of assists now plays for your own club".
But when you want to talk about the sports itself you find that there is not a ton of information. You probably heard of tactics like 4-4-2 or 3-5-1. Then maybe you have heard that you usually use different tactics when attacking/defending.
Really great analysis like this (sry German) is rare as frick. Or smaller stuff like why United defenders made goal kicks vs Arsenal. And honestly, I can understand the explanations. But I would never be able to see them on the field on my own (especially due to camera views being really shitty - you need to see the whole pitch to view tactics, so only works when you visit the stadium). I honestly wish there was some kind of "coaching material" available online. Like the stuff you need to learn to get your manager licenses.
