These men want purity in a woman. They subconsciously (or consciously) want a woman who's never had s*x with a man before.
It's why they don't have any nuance in their criticisms. Like, what if a woman is a single mother because her husband died and the children are all his?
What if a man lies about who he is to a woman and doesn't become abusive until several years and several children into their relationship?

I'd have no problem dating a widowed mother. At least not for the reasons I'd avoid touching an unwed mother with a ten foot pole and a hazmat suit. The former did nothing wrong.

I just don't think already existent children with established personalities and their own unique conception of what a father is would, in a vacuum at least, be well-served by having that role filled to some extent by a guy who finds moderating a gossip forum for years to be an acceptable use of time.

I wouldn't start dating any single mother, regardless of if she's a widow or not.
I agree it's not her fault, but I'm still not gonna play second fiddle to some kid, nor do I want to raise a child that's not mine.
