Haha yeah I love that series, too bad they only made two games. The first Saints Row game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Saints Row 2 sure made for a great series that no other games exist in!

Hmmmm yeeeeeah lemme ruin almost every recurring character, let's make Snake ugly and old maaaaan, haha what if the supernatural elements that made the series so unique was ALL NANOMACHINESSSSS? I love a 70 minute cutscene of a wedding between a critical character and a joke character! Haha, poop funny! FUNNY SODA MONKEY!

Wait, I need more controversy.
The Darkness (2007) was the ONLY good iteration of The Darkness. The original comics sucked. The sequel sucks because they made it into the comics. Starbreeze took a shit series, made it amazing, and then lost it all. I'd give anything for a real Darkness 2, bros.
This is the correct take. The game designers took out as much as possible from the original license while still keeping it recognizable and then did their own thing with it.
The end result was a much better experience than what could be pulled from the source material directly and the sequel proves that.
I will say that I did like the crazy narrator from the sequel though. He was the only good thing in it.

You're talking about... I think his name was Johnny Powell? He was aight. I also liked that Jackie actually talked BACK to The Darkness and had conversations with it. Everything else just sucked. We didn't need the Brotherhood and Angelus in the game.
I unironically like 2 a lot more than Inquisition, because at least it wasn’t 8 hours of main quest surrounded by 100 how of MMO style fetch quests, but neither were really good at the end of the day.
I played Origins when it released and skipped DA2 until after Inquisition and I liked it a lot more than Inquisition for some reason but yeah it undoubtedly doesn’t hold a candle to Origins.

Dead Space
Anyone excited for the remaster? I heard they did some simple race/gender swapping for the NPCs (both kinds) but it looks like the vibe and gameplay remains intact

The original is GOAT. I've avoided Invisible War, but Human Revolution was pretty good at the time. Mankind Divided feels stagnant like it meanders but also feels like it was cut short before it got good, like it was setting up a game we will never get.

Wolfenstein Reboots, New Order/Old Blood was phenomenal. New Colossus had cool ideas and an interesting setting that was just wasted on a game that was worse in almost every way than the first, with 10-12 minute cutscenes to boot. Then Youngbloods was even worse

Gears of war trilogy, anything after 3 is total shit. Dawn of war 1 and 2 are both very different from each other but still fantastic in their own ways then 3 turned up and immediately died.
Dude protagonist looked like a bully that tried to bully me, but ended being so hard bullied by me and my bipocs friends that he switched the school. So looking at this character I always cringed. Some days he came to school wearing matrix 1 clothes. Dude would been a school shooter in US
I think nostalgia plays a huge rule in games we like, like I was little kid when I played Crisis Core and I thought it was such cool game and so good written. Now playing the remake and interaction between characters felt clearly that they were written by a person that never had love or friend and is ultra neurodivergent so I googled him and yeah dude is now 54 and had never a wife. I basically had very different experiences with the game than when I was 11

I know it may not be considered a masterpiece but Tales of Symphonia vs the weird monster catching Dawn of A New World sequel.
It basically says, 'yeah everything you did in the first game? Basically made everything worse.
The cast you love? Sidelined jobbers who are not at all like they were (not helped by virtually all VAs being replaced).
New characters? Absolutely insufferable and / or monsters that you capture and raise.
Like ffs, the main protagonist (male) fights in a strapless gown/ genie suit for some inexplicable reason.

Japanese animu games tend to have these story and design issues.

Yeah, it's just the most egregious example I've ever come across tbh.
Like at least FFX-2 had a decent battle and job system (even if it was dolly dressup) to compensate for it's story.
This just retroactively makes the first's basic but decently done story much less enjoyable.

Oh, the edge in the game aged terribly but it had a pretty good story. Dialogue is littered with r-slurs, it wouldn't pass today.
I always thought he looked like Peter Steele from Type O Negative.
