ITT: Absolute masterpieces with shitty sequels that ruin everything.

Prototype is probably the other one that comes to mind for me tbh. I also HATED Metal Gear Solid 4 and beyond.

I know it may not be considered a masterpiece but Tales of Symphonia vs the weird monster catching Dawn of A New World sequel.

It basically says, 'yeah everything you did in the first game? Basically made everything worse.

The cast you love? Sidelined jobbers who are not at all like they were (not helped by virtually all VAs being replaced).

New characters? Absolutely insufferable and / or monsters that you capture and raise.

Like ffs, the main protagonist (male) fights in a strapless gown/ genie suit for some inexplicable reason.

Japanese animu games tend to have these story and design issues.

Yeah, it's just the most egregious example I've ever come across tbh.

Like at least FFX-2 had a decent battle and job system (even if it was dolly dressup) to compensate for it's story.

This just retroactively makes the first's basic but decently done story much less enjoyable.
