What’s everyone been playing?
CSGO major has begun! Time tonwatch teams I dislike fail and the ones I like succeed, hopefully. Mashallah Niko will get the trophy.

Still Stellaris. New DLC with a free patch dropped, screwed with balance of big empires, made generals beyond usless, and introduced epilepsy inducing UI glitches. They are going to patch it (someday) so I'm enjoying this while I can.

Those are very different games.
For tips. I guess early exploration is important, so it's good to have multiple science ships (with the new leader cap It's harder to have more than 2 though), ignoring anomalies and researching them later helps, especially if they are above your scientist level.
Capturing systems with only one hyperlane entering from the outside of your empire makes guarding your border infinitly less annoying. In early game a starbase with 2x gun segment and a single platform in such system can be a great deterrent.
Lastly, alloys are the most important resource, not because they are the most usefull, but becuse they are the most disposable. Building fleets, rebuilding them, buildig starbases, all that burns trough them rapidly, and buying alloys with energy credits is untenable, you need to produce them.
It's a complicated game, especially with all the (Expensive) DLC if you decide to buy any. The one I will recommend above all else is Utopia.

Do you automate all the planets and politicians?

At most I automate science ships later on. Planet automation may be worth it if you have too many planets to care, but it's very suboptimal. Normally I just check all planets from time to time, or if I see that they have jobless pops.

Got a follow up: does building new districts open up building slots?

City distritcs do that.
Also, with some civics other districts can. Agrarian idyll (that i think is in base game) gives a building slot every few farming districts.
