Dave the Diver is gook trash. Everyone calls it "relaxing", "chill", "play at your own pace".
don't know what the frick game they were playing but it's not the one I played. It's an annoying QTE-filled grindfest that constantly forces you into unwanted unskippable cutscenes
and takes you out of the flow of what you wanted, which is probably by design because the core of the game is very sparse.
The restaurant side game is just Root Beer Tapper combined with Farmville
. The combat controls are janky
as frick, the hitboxes make absolutely no sense and the boss fights are difficult for the sake of being difficult.
The minigames are dumb as frick. Oh wow
, a memory card game. Neat, a seahorse racing game where you just mash the space bar.
A rhythm minigame that takes place in an otaku's wet dream about his waifu, so cool. I legitimately do not understand why this is anything above a Mixed rating on Steam, much less "Overwhelmingly Positive".
G*mers really are just BIPOCcattle I suppose.

AI will not only be necessary in the future, it will be preferred. The standard for the size, scope and complexity of open world games requires hundreds of people half a decade and a quarter of a billion dollars to make, truly advanced AI will be able to fill the gaps in ways we today see as sacrilegious and anti-creativity.
I think this will extend to even AI NPCs, with AI voiceacting speaking AI written dialogue about AI generated quests. Imagine thousands of fully fleshed out NPCs that never exhaust or find a limit to their dialogue. Imagine a game where you're a king in a castle, and you have to rule a kingdom by verbally (or through free text) delegating authority to dynamic NPCs. Or a detective game where you never actually know if the suspect is telling the truth. Or a romance game where you actually have to win a fake woman's heart. The possibilities are endless.

Most people don't want infinite content or randomization. If anything there's a lot of criticism for games with too much content, especially when it's clearly not tailor-made.
I do think in the future we'll see certain games lean heavily into AI technology. Maybe devs could finally accomplish a modern version of Daggerfall that used current AI/procedural technologies to govern a whole country's worth of fantasy adventures. That would be an amazing experience, even if it was just as buggy and questionable as every Bethesda product. But there's a reason developers haven't just been trying to iterate on Daggerfall over and over since the mid 90's. That level of complexity is a gimmick, not a standard.

I like procedurally generated content. Like Darklands or King of Dragon Pass where most of the game is random encounters. But I'm an old boomer and normies don't agree with me.

Eh I'd say that's not true. There's a balance to be struck between empty procedural shit and handcrafted areas, but that point has been shifting further and further out. Elden Ring is like 10-20x the size of Dark Souls and only a decade later. AC and Zelda too

Holy shit, I could actually get behind one of those large scale, historical strategy games if the whole thing was from the perspective of a King delegating orders.
I doubt you could make the moment-to-moment gameplay loop "realistic" because honestly, real kings were probably just fricking and eating most of the day
But still, the idea of playing as a Roman Consul in VR, going to war, and delegating battle strategy on-the-fly while you're getting bad, confusing, conflicting, etc. reports, sounds super engaging, but maybe I'm just a big history nerd idk

Strategy games where you delegate to AI have been tried a few times. There's a Master of Orion type game a few years ago that did this but I can't remember the name.
The trouble is, it feels like the game is just playing itself and it doesn't need you.

Someone already plugged AI NPC's that you can talk to into the Matrix UE5 demo, it's kinda cool - they even have slightly different personalities - but pretty bland for the time being.

This is unironically what they should do. Like they could even just have AI write most of the dialog options and have a human edit it. Still easier than writing it all from scratch.
