City sim bros... we have to go back :marseyitsover:

Why is it so hard to get a modern city sim that actually puts some effort into simulating growth over time instead of letting you paint whatever wholesome 100 city you want or having stupid level-up gimmicks? Total Cities: Skylines death.

Somebody had to say it. :marseyclapping: Cities skylinesis a logistical sandbox for turbo-autists :marseyautism: who want to build the "perfect city" (read communist utopia where everyone is a drone). Laughably easy to keep your people happy, no soul, no personality, just "make money to unlock more stuff to make more money". Does it even have scenarios? All DLC is "place building to make blue circle to satisfy new need." or "resource turn to different resource cha ching". "sims" are bots who dgaf how their city is run as long as taxes arent too high. Game is done once you make enough money to just rebuild after "disasters". FRICKING CHIRPY HOLY FRICK SHUT UUUUUP :marseyraging:

Compare to:

Caesar: Many mechanics running behind the scenes, housing requires special resources, ALL BUILDINGS physically have a worker traveling to and from their workplace servicing needs, using resources. Military actions need to be taken. Caesar MUST be appeased :marseykingcrown: , or you can build a force so strong you can effectively seceed.

Tropico: Various factions all with competing goals :marseynouautism: ,logistics required to feed the populace and export goods. foreign relations and private industry, immigration controls, multiple work-modes for each building. Colourful characters and all citizens have individual alignments and skills. ELECTIONS. Murder your opposition :marseystalin: Want a theocracy? :marseypope: You can do that! Want a military dictatorship? You can do that! DLC added tons of content. Edicts that durastcally changed your popularity or demographics.

:marseylongpost: In conclusion: CSL can suck my hairy balls with its sterile lifeless corpselips while I motorboat the frick out of Tropico's giant tanned latinx tits.

The dictatorial aspect of Tropico is a gimmick because you have to try very hard to lose an election. It's also prone to DLC with "content" slurry instead of better game mechanics. But yes it's still got more going for it than Cities: Skylines.

In the original Tropico on max difficulty level you do have to worry about politics. Having a population that expects to be lifted out of poverty fast really lights a fire under your butt.

The game is fairly easy once youve figured out your "opening moves" (though it really does like to mess with you in the campaigns which I enjoy), but it's nice to at least be able to roleplay.

Come to think of it I think I only got close to losing one election and I rigged it. lol. I wonder if I coud tweak the difficulty in the gamefiles.

Either way modern times added random events and cool new buildings and edicts (like importing 100 chinks!) and frankly, grug down with that :#grug:

Tropico 4 and 6 are both excellent city builders. Caesar is great with Augustus (praise roadblocks) and worth playing for anyone that has only played base game Caesar 3.

FRICKING CHIRPY HOLY FRICK SHUT UUUUUP

Chirper is the most realistic part of the game because it makes me want to type slurs and tell people to kill themselves. It's just like the real thing, frfr. :marseywholesome:

Why does SimCity4 look better than CS2? If only Maxis wasn't forced by EA to cuck the game in a thousand different ways, it would still be regularly played today. The dream would be the source code getting leaked and the game getting remade like OpenRCT has been. Also if the turbo-autists who run the modding site finally got their shit together and allowed for people to publish bundled mods, instead of every single BAT needing random dependencies from a half-dozen websites last updated in 2010, every single one requiring that you unzip and properly install it individually.

I never had to go back, I still play SimCity 4.

I don't know if it's really that good of a game mechanically but no other city builder looks as good, I love the realistic look, it gives it roughness other city builders lack.

Also, great soundtrack.

I'm superficial like that.

It has some underlying problems (e.g. can't have density until the regional population is high enough, bad traffic simulation for anything besides cars, only commute and exports generate trips) and interface issues. And you could do more with current hardware. But I guess they just won't make them like they used to. :marseyboomer:

I'd like to see a city sim where development is not primarily driven by the player but has to be channeled in the right direction to make it better. Like how in Tropico, if there's not housing the place it needs to be people will just build their own shantytown there instead, but this concept applied to everything.

SimCity 4 is considered one of the best city builders of all time, tons of people still play it.

Well, that's nice.

Honestly I just don't keep up with city builders. I look them up, they look glossy and cartoony, so I quit. And as such I have no idea if maybe mechanically they evolved from the 2000s when SC4 was released, making it outdated.

Basically every simulator gets something wrong. How many games other than parkitect did rollercoasters well besides rollercoaster tycoon 1-3? City simulations are even worse. There's just no 90s white man soul if that's what you want to call it.

Cities Skylines is made by a team based in Finland. Fins get like two straight months of paid vacation, so half the team was fricking off and the other half was working 35 hours a week.

EA has the opposite problem where they are so greedy and r-slurred that they have developers working 100 hour weeks to make sure the game can't run without a server connection. That or managers refused to make a fricking decision until the last minute and everything becomes an “emergency.”

90s-early 00s simulators had giga autists working 100 hour weeks on purpose because they loved writing in assembly for no reason.

Yeah I remember them saying no patches because they all get a month off in the summer. How do you even run a productive company over there?

Jump in the discussion.

Clearly not well since they started work on CS2 in 2018 and still fricked it up.

I think it's just a reaction to r-slurred American companies who think working grunts to the bone is good productivity, but the problem is that people who aren't at work at all aren't productive either. So euros are just r-slurred in a different way. It's like when you went back to school after summer break and the first 6 weeks was just recapping 5th grade so you could actually start learning. When you're off for a month you don't know what the frick is going on any more.

I'm just amazed that none of the r-slurs at EA have realized yet that they can make a semi-decent game, call it Sim City 5, and have enormous sales. Make it have some kind of link to The Sims and you can get some of those players onboard too.

None of that developer talent is there anymore, and they're just incapable of making semi-decent games on reasonable budgets. "Enormous sales" for a city sim is small for other genres.

They should hire a team of ten neurodivergent men with an IQ of no less than 120, and give them 18 months to complete SimCity 5. It'll be the best game they ever made.

I like CS1 with mods because I have a very specific brand of autism where I like building highly detailed realistic cities (a good example of this in YouTube is the series Neptune City)

But the actual simulation sucks and if I wanted to play for strategy I'd just download like SC4 or something

I am writing in response to your request for my political opinion on "big tiddy goth girls". I must first state that upon receiving this electronic message, I had to direct one of my interns to look it up for me on the internet, as I am much to old and feeble minded to use a personal computing system. Upon finding out the meaning of this, I must say I am quite against women with large bosoms who dress and do their powder and rogue in the style of gothic. I believe this style of appearance too closely mimics that of satanism, and while the first amendment protects this, it is something I cannot morally support.

Lastly, you also mentioned something about "traps being gay", which was another term I had to have defined for me on the internet. Men who cross dress as women; it would still be having a homosexual relationship even if they had the appearance of a woman. So this time, I am actually in agreement with you on this.

This is perhaps one of the strangest requests for opinion I have ever received, and I am sorry to make this response brief, but I must make my hourly trip to Dairy Queen, as it is a good place for u kno what.

Sincerely,

Chuck Grassley
