It's probably a lot of people's first exposure to something that's actually stylized and not just realismslop. Same with its music.

Same with gameplay, I had a friend who doesn't play JRPGs tell me that Persona 5 innovated on the genre because you could use weaknesses to "break" enemies :marseyxd:

I could feel my eye twitch anytime someone praised Metaphor's battle system as being innovative when it's just Press Turn with a few new additions. :marseyschizotwitch:

Apparently it's a good game but the director pisses me off with his interviews because he like "The JRPG genre is boring and stagnant and here is how we innovated" and then proceed to list things many games have done since past the 16 bit era

His original idea was to go proper fantasy since he thought that urban fantasy had become the norm rather than the exception in media. But then the game took so long to come out that the reverse was now true thanks to isekaislop driving a lot of otaku media to generic fantasy. At least he has kind of an interesting hook where in the fantasy world their version of fantasy literature is just basically our world. The demo made me want to play the whole thing but not right away.

I'm mainly talking gameplay wise but still Fire Emblem has been doing the same thing for god knows how many years so political fantasy isn't as orginal as he claims lol

Although considering P5s fanbase I doubt they've even played P5 anyways.

I agree that P5 has good art direction but it doesn't exist in a vacuum. It stands tall on the shoulders of prior titles in the franchise which all had their own distinct color palette and style, P5 doesn't deserve an award for doing the same with new colors, fonts, and music
