This is - far and away - the most interactions I've gotten on a tweet by autodrama. Thanks @SmallFestiveNips for bringing rdrama to the masses
To refer to Elon Musk as an "African King" is an insult to Africans... - 6 likes

God, why are they all so smug and unfunny.

Twitter is so weird because I've never met people with these personalities in real life. Redditors exist in real life and you can spot them, but Twitter users erupting in their boring unfunny takes about tiny issues just isn't something I see.
Maybe the moaning old man propping up a bar, but there's billions of them on twitter.

Like half of Americans agree with reddit takes though, have you ever spent time in the Bay Area or Seattle or any West coast city?
Redditor beliefs are common because while they may be r-slurred they're mostly polite and harmless. Redditor hobbies are common because while they may be cheap and r-slurred, they're risk free and don't require that much effort, risk or thought, and they don't risk somehow breaking any contrived new social norms.

Yea and it's fricking miserable hearing someone rattle on about something that was definitely just a post in their reddit feed and they did 0 research after that. Like a guy I'm friends with who is usually pretty smart was unironically talking about how Orcs in Warhammer/D&D were all def based on racist stereotypes And don't get me started on millennial foids

It's weird. Reddit is like a training space for them. Any intelligent rebuttal is pushed incredibly low, and replies eventually get buried. Some people know that well enough to purposely argue someone into irrelevance. There was even a time where you could sort by controversial to find the good shit, but they've obviously recognized that fact and made the most controversial posts some caricature take from the most bumbling idiot they can dunk on or removed completely. It's not even a place made for discourse, it's made for cultural tuning. Where people can go to see what not to say. They don't want to accidentally have a controversial opinion or say the wrong thing.
Then there are the spaces created where women go specifically to train themselves on how to speak like a grievance expert. I even mentioned to my wife that her gay and trans friends all sound like bad psychologists. They all "believe and trust science" then wear crystals and do witch rituals. I'm not even mad anymore, I'm just in awe of the whole thing.

This is due to subreddits autodeleting posts that have high negative votes, so you can't use sort by controversial to get sane opinions, they're just all erased.

It's useful though, it infuriates people. I had a very unpleasant encounter with a woman recently and I just started spewing out lines taken directly from 2x to see what would happen.
'My feelings are valid as they originate from my lived experiences.'
'I don't feel safe in this space.'
'I said no, which is a complete sentence.'
I don't think I came out of that interaction looking particularly sane but they at least stopped barracking me which was the objective.

It serves the same purpose for Zoomers/Milennials as Evangelical churches did for Boomers and Silents. IME a lot of the people who really lean into grievance expert talk, "trust science", etc. tend to come from Evangelical background.

This makes me unironically sneed. Wokies who go 'Orks loot and pillage therefore they're black' is some of the most racist shit I've heard

They're obviously based on Imperial Germany considering LoTR they're corrupted elves obssessed with industrialization and militarism which invade everyone around them. The loot and pillage stuff has always been associated with Germanic since the Romans.

If I know theyβre wrong (which they usually are, or at least itβs a half-truth) Iβll just say βthatβs Reddit shitβ and it makes them feel kind of dumb. Works like a charm because even redditors are embarrassed of going on Reddit :

Eh, you really only see that viewpoint on social media. The average Californian or Oregonian knows they've won the culture war. Pearlclutching about Trump is just their way of mocking the uneducated rightoid plebs.

Have you ever been to a big liberal city? They're actually called big cities because they have more people in them than bum frick Missouri. Surprising, I know.

As someone from bum frick Missouri, you're right and thank goodness. I moved from bum frick to liberal city and back to bum frick to raise my family. The weird thing is is it's actually way more racist and backward than people think in the city, they just do a lot of jaw action without actually doing anything.

I've met them in real life and under normal circumstances they don't talk about their online sneeding, unless maybe they are an old person or a super sperg with no fricks to give. They just pull out their phone and have a "heh" face or a face of disgust and annoyance as they tap out tweets in the corner.
In college a lot of them were the very quiet people that were also boring and not particularly kind, some of which put effort into pretending to be quirky.

I work with a Twitter personality actually, itβs pretty bizarre. Pick any topic of conversation and she can make it into some weird political thing.
My coworker was talking about the World Cup and she said she picks who to cheer for based on which team are colonists vs victims of colonization. Once I asked her how the weather was in her state and she started telling me about how great it is to live around so many rich black people. Pretty much everything she says the only answer I can come up with is βoh, okayβ.
Itβs exhausting having to sanitize everything I say before I open my mouth too. She gets triggered by the weirdest things, and she isnβt shy about telling us about it. βOh actually I find that phrase very triggering because <some past traumatic event>.β
I think the weirdest thing though is that she always assumes you feel the same way about things. I guess thatβs what the internet does to you.

I use to work with a hardcore Bernie bro and the guy would just talk about all this pro Bernie stuff without even thinking some of us might disagree. The thing is I really wanted to tell him itβs work, political talk is inappropriate, and frankly heβs r-slurred. At the end of the day though, you just get through it because youβre normal and donβt want to deal with it.
