Venezuala has always been undiversified and reliant on oil exports. This goes back way, way further than Chavez or Maduro. If you blame this on them you're unironically r-slurred.

A big part of why the US can spend so lavishly is because of the dominance of the US dollar. Every time we print money, the US doesn't suffer as much inflation as it normally should, because the dollar is used globally as well, so the effects of inflation are spread across the global economy. We effectively tax the rest of the world.
We saw this exact effect during COVID. Everyone printed money like crazy, but America saw less inflation than other developed countries, because only America printed US Dollars.
Governments may not be household budgets, but the illusion of free money we have in America partly comes from our ability to redistribute value away from the world and towards ourselves.

For a well-functioning society you need elites that aren't corrupt. The more corrupt they are, the less power they can be trusted with.
All "this system vs that system" bullshit is pointless.
Outcomes of a country/society are primarily determined by the quality of its elites, secondarily by the quality of its upper 10%, and tertiarily by the quality of its remaining 90%.
Scandinavia used to be filled with high quality people, so they were able to succdem for a few decades. But it made them r-slurred, and now they're actively driving down the human quality. The low quality of people is the reason why succdem Sweden will either collapse or became something else more suited to a shit population.

but the problem is always the same: one way or another power is always concentrated in a few people's hands. and the success of a system depends on how awful those few people are and how awful they are at finding good replacements for themselves once they're gone, and (if at the inception of the system the system had good mechanisms to keep the people in power accountable) how awful they are at preserving those accountability mechanisms.
Western Europe after WWII, thanks in no small part to the USA and thanks (sic) to the horrors of WWII, implemented some pretty good systems. But over time the accountability mechanisms corrode away, and the cultural mechanisms ensuring that the elites want what's best for their people have corroded away. Nowadays in Europe IMHO only Denmark and Switzerland can be considered democracies.
