it's not so much ideal, but China has over 1 billion people, has been socialist for more than 70 years, and still chugging along China-ly.
By some metrics it's a success. Sure it's no utopia, but it pokes more than a few holes in the Usonian narrative.

I tend to think libertarianism is a flawed ideology that misunderstands human nature in wanting to wield the state to impose a vision for one's people/ingroup. Liberalism also fails in this regard. Venezuala has always been undiversified and reliant on oil exports. This goes back way, way further than Chavez or Maduro. If you blame this on them you're unironically r-slurred.
Chavez and Maduro attempted to build a social democracy in a third world country using this oil money. Norway does it, so why not them? This was problem number 1. Social democracy can only work in the West because of the privileges the west currently enjoys. I can explain this if you want.
