It's not terrible and probably pretty good by amerimutt standards, but it got way way worse with COVID and never recovered due to r-slurred union bullshit (they literally won't let CTA hire more rail operators fast enough lmao).

Also like all urban areas in the US, there's been a spike of crime on/around the trains and apparently nobody can do anything about it. Well they tried at one point years ago but some r-slurred cops tried arresting someone for "walking between train cars" (probably doing more than that), failed to actually detain him because they're fat, and then shot at him in a crowded subway station. After that cops were basically removed from CTA.
