Use a proper rack with safety rails. If you set them at the right height, bailing a squat is as simple as leaning forward slightly. The rails will support the weight and you can get out safely. If that's not an option, you may want to practice bailing safely, if you don't have a spotter or a rack available, it's a good skill to have.

my gym actually has these but idk why I just leave them off or move them to the lowest position lmao I'll try to actually set them up properly and see and hopefully it won't draw too much attention to me if I need to bail :3 thanks
No problem. Finding the right height can be tricky the first time, you don't want the bar to hit them at the bottom of a normal squat but if they're too low they won't help much. Try and eyeball them so they're about 2 inches under where the bar would be at the bottom of the squat and that should be ok.
They're good for benching without a spotter too, they should be set at a height where the bar won't touch when you're arched, but if you fail, you can flatten out and the rails will take the weight of the bar and you can just slide out.
but yeah it's mostly just curiosity, I'm not that worried about it otherwise which is why I haven't bothered to try to go (relatively) heavy or speed up strength gains

One rep max squat is a bad idea. I did Β£500 damage to my car by bailing a squat in my garage. The bar rolled into the car door.
